The number that appears on the home page of our website reflects accounts created, currently at 209,075. Obviously not every account ever created is still actively involved in Second Life, so we also look at 'active' accounts. The way to count active accounts that we think is most meaningful is a trailing 60 day measure of unique log-ins. That number is currently just over 103,000, and will be included in the stats that we will be reporting daily, beginning next week.

I think this is the first quasi-official, mostly-unambiguous statement of the SL population that has been given. Mind you, 60 days is a *long* time in attention span-space. I'd like to see 7-, 14-, 30-, and 60-day stats released.

Yes, that would be interesting. Well, "interesting" in a really geeky way.

Data is certainly delicious...

My company is glad to see the 60 day total around 100,000. I had always assumed it was more around 20,000. I have a feeling the actual, non-alt, 30 day number is somewhere around 60,000 but that is still a really good number considering the technical issues and rule changes of the past year both good and bad.
