Hi,

How does Linden Lab define an "active" account? e.g. "the active number of accounts in Second Life reached 200,000."

Thanks.

QUESTION: What is an "Active Account"?
05-02-2006 21:55
Zero Grace asked this some time ago, and I have been keeping an eye on it because I'm interested, too:

"Hi,

"How does Linden Lab define an 'active' account? e.g. 'the active number of accounts in Second Life reached 200,000.'

"Thanks."

I'm posting it again in case it was missed; it is now on page 5.

Thanks,

coco

What does "inhabited by nearly 180,000 people" mean?
05-03-2006 15:13
The description for the Second Life podcast on the iTunes Music store says that Second Life "is inhabited by nearly 180,000 people..."

What does this mean? Specifically, what does "inhabited" mean, and what does "people" mean in the context of the above quote?

Last week I asked what an "active account" was, but didn't receive an answer.

Perhaps you could answer both questions. Is "inhabited by people" the same thing as a "active accounts"? While we're on the subject, what is the definition of a "resident?" Is it the same as or different than a person? Is it the same as or different than an active account?

[edit: corrected a typo]

(Merged related posts for better visibility!)

This one hasn't been forgotten--I should have posted it was being looked into earlier but is taking some time. My apologies for both elapsing the expected time and not updating previously.

There should be an answer coming shortly.

The number that appears on the home page of our website reflects accounts created, currently at 209,075. Obviously not every account ever created is still actively involved in Second Life, so we also look at 'active' accounts. The way to count active accounts that we think is most meaningful is a trailing 60 day measure of unique log-ins. That number is currently just over 103,000, and will be included in the stats that we will be reporting daily, beginning next week.
