From: ArchTx Edo Sorry to be ressurecting such an old post, but consider this.
How about instead of money trees and coal mines, you pay Noobs to learn skills. Sort of like Financial Aide for each lesson completed at the Ivory Tower of Primitives. And/or is there a similar school for scripts? Why do we need a jobs training program? The economy is strong and those who want to work, can and do. When you write, "...,you pay Noobs to learn skills," you are proposing that you=LL which means a government jobs program. If LL has to shell out more for what is pretty much a welfare program the exchange rate is going to suffer for at least half the currency traders. The existing group of people have managed well enough. Those who want to learn seem to find a way to learn (part of the experience of exploration and discovery). Don't screw up the economy by implementing a government subsidized jobs program in a strong economy. Nice thought, though

One thing that's made me smile is, actually, before SL, I really didn't know about 3D modelling in a practical capacity (dabbled WAY back but that was in). But within the gridverse, I've come to appreciate it hands-on while having fun. I take it day by day so it's never strenous "work" to me, and I do it when inspiration and/or the feeling strikes. The skills you learn in terms of creating stuff can easily be applied to other software. Of course, you use other proggies in combination with SL. I feel that this is most edutational, and a sort of unique productivity unto itself that you can't find elsewhere. Kinda like... you think you're coming to play, but you're really doing work while you play. Yet another thing I love about Second Life!

So is anyone actually working on this or is it just ideas floating around? I think its a great idea to make newbies do very tedius work to earn a few L's. Ive noticed that it is quite hard to make money in SL if you can't Build, Make textures, Clothing etc. Some people just dont have the mind to do that kinda stuff. I myself got lucky because ive done countless custom shirts in RL with photoshop/paintshop and aparently it came in handy in SL =)
There just needs to be more open jobs that don't require skills like that. And ya, Make it so boring to mine in that thing that you will dred going there. Nothing free shouldn't be worked for. The money trees were a good idea...lets see these mines come into SL....If anyone would like to start this please feel free to IM me and I will be more then glad to help with the construction.

I say you make them sit in small cubicles for hours on end clicking pointlessly at a keyboard. If you really want to be cruel, give them regular performance reviews of how well they have been performing the pointless clicking. The owner of the system can saunter by occasionally and demand more pointless clicking.
