All you doomsayers will be in for a suprise... Second Life will not die because a few bleeding hearts out there can't stand the idea that profit is being promoted before artistic work. In fact, the very nature of (greed) will spur a revolution of growth and development. Leaving the rest of you complainers in the mud. New faces will join SL to replace the bleeding hearts that leave.
So either accept the changes that LL has proposed or go ahead and cancel your account. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. And oh, leave the lights on for your replacement. Their indoctrination into Second (For Profit) Life will start right away. And without any bleeding hearts left, there will be no opposition to the Capitalist Revolution.
It has been many long hours to reach this goal. And finally, the spell of the flower children has been broken. Money, Greed, & Profit, will now reign over Second Life.... Muahahahahah
Like I said in an earlier post to a leftist radical who said they wouldn't buy a cup of water from me if they were dying of thirst. And my response, "Go ahead and die of thirst, the next thristy customer will be glad to open their wallet for a cup of water. If not, repeat the process."

From: Lina Pussycat The L will become less valuable due to the announcement as it will likely cause panic sales. And dark having the economy being more controlable is not necessarily good. Considering without the stipends you force people into buying L. Your under the assumption that people are just going to buy L just because they are forced into it and very likely they wont. Another thing is it makes premium accounts non appealing and if its just based off tier payments many people wont get involved with tier at all. I can put this in like this SL - stipend = LL losing potential premium accounts, Newer players get no real introduction to the economy, you squash development by forcing people to buy L anytime they want to start doing something and if they are creative and dont have the money to buy L well they are pretty much screwed over. There are to many reasons why the stipend is helpful and most of the people that are overly worried about the L stabalizing really dont care about SL and i think they forget that they were new or didnt work at one point in SL. I think the only way you will see is if it happens and your business falls to pieces due to it. See how much of a profit you make when no one really has L to spend on your products. Starting money for new players is a good thing. I've stated myself that I'd rather see a larger inital amount given to new players. Stipends don't just go to new players. You also don't need any money to be creative in Second Life. If you are creative enough; you don't even need to upload photos, and I'm not just talking about free textures. The premium accounts are not the only way of Linden Labs making money. If Linden Labs can make the same amount of money without putting the economy to the random chance of the premium account sign-ups; I see no problem. As for people that won't buy out of spite. If you can't figure out that you have been buying $L all along, then I think you have bigger problems than a lower $L balance. I also have never cared about how much of a $L profit I made. What I care about is how much of a US$ profit I make. I agree with people that it is important to make Second Life fun, but I've never believed the stipend is what makes Second Life fun even from the beginning. When I was brand new here, I made a rather uninformed post against the stipend. I'm more moderate than I ws before. I can at least see some benefit to it now. In the beginning, I hated the fact that I had to pay US$72 for money I couldn't see for a year, and I hated the fact that I had to compete with the stipend. I do remember when I was new. I didn't need the stipend, and it seemed like such a ridiculous thing when something like GOM existed. I'm too old for an allowance.

I know of a small number of people that employ people in SL. Anshe obviously, June Dion at Bare Rose does for newbies I believe, there are dancers, escorts and security and a few others. But so many of the jobs in SL require skills - scripting, texturing, building etc. that the older residents can either do themselves, or they have their ring of contacts for people that can do it for them... It's possible to break into that ring of course, but not as a total newbie in most fields (texturing for things other than clothes being the probable exception).
Your mention of jobs brings to mind an observation I made in the last week. I'm so new that I don't really know the culture but of the 15 groups that I'm a member of 2 of them mentioned they were hiring people, one was opening a restaurant and hiring waitresses and the other is a golf course and I don't know what they are looking for. I mention this because this seems to be out of the norm for jobs in SL. Has anybody else seen new opportunities for jobs in SL?

Like I said in an earlier post to a leftist radical who said they wouldn't buy a cup of water from me if they were dying of thirst. And my response, "Go ahead and die of thirst, the next thristy customer will be glad to open their wallet for a cup of water. If not, repeat the process." Ah, good ol' RBD. Second Life is not just about making money. If it is, then why the Linden push to show how SL can be used for education (a whole lot of which is provided by not-for-profit groups and individuals)? Furthermore, your mentality is easily revealed when you start using terms like "bleeding hearts" and "leftist radical". The little water story makes me laugh. I can't know the exact intention of the OP when he or she said that, but were I dying of thirst I wouldn't buy a cup of water from you either. Thing is, though, it's not that I wouldn't buy a cup of water at all...I just wouldn't buy it from you. Oh, and when are you going to get back to me (and some others) about your L$ bashing ways? I took the time to find compile some of your FUD posts and asked you to explain them and I haven't heard back yet... But while I'm waiting for you to repond to that, I'm interested to see the Master Capitalist RBD at work. Maybe you could post some slurls to your businesses in game.
