2. A percentage of Land auctions to be held in $US but the buyer had the choice or paying in $US or $L at the exchange rate at the time of the auction close.

Why not just allow Residents to post their land up for auction in L$? This 'feature' would take a L$ percentage to allow that posting, say 10% or L$20 (whichever is higher), deducted only when the parcel gets a winning bid.

This system has to be automated to work well (and have a couple other things fleshed out), but it could work in theory.

There's also, for those who have not yet seen Preview, an automated system soon to post Classifieds for two week periods. It costs L$250 each time I believe, and is done from the user's profile. It's looking like one of those sinks people are asking for...

Can I suggest something completely different ?

Situation so far: people are currently more eager to cash out L$ into RL$, causing the L$ to lose RL$ value.

To counter this decrease in value, which affects LL's bottom line in the long term and content producers in the short term, I suggest that everyone willing please add value to the game itself.

The best way to do this varies with the player, I suppose "whatever you find to be fun" will generally be accurate in most cases.

My suggestion? Panic and post hourly about penny changes in the exchange rate. Way more helpful.

Oh, and jump out of high Walll Street office windows thus reducing the net inflow of L$ to the SL money supply. This is the truly selfless act

In fact, putting my feet where my words are, and also seeing that my US$1m investment in L$ yesterday has lost 0.88% of its value, I hereby will and bequeath my remaining US$991_150 to the SL widows and orphans support fund and appoint Jamie Bergman as the executor of my will.

Goodbye cruel, cruel Fate. (no, not "Damien Fate", that other "Fate";).

After much careful consideration, I have determined that heights give me the "willies". Please ignore my prior post.

I guess I'm not as altruistic as I thought. :(

If there were someone on the pavement below for you to land on would it make a difference? Or would that depend on who it was?

Edit to put on saftey hat, just in case...

The value of the game is NOT based off of the value of the $L. The value of the $L has nothing to do with the demand in US$ for a good in SL. You do not change the price of the $L by making someone want to pay more US$ for something in the game, and you do not change what someone is willing to pay for something in US$ by changing the price of the $L.

For everyone that buys a $L for trade, there is someone that wants to sell the $L just traded back on the market. Every new buyer brings an equal new seller.

The reason there are more sellers than buyers, is that a large portion of people get their $L in some way shape or form from Linden Labs. Linden Labs only gives out $L, they don't buy them back. The only way they can equal things out is by charging for $L which have US$0 to them, and destroying them.

This also means that you have lots of people who are becoming sellers on the market without ever bringing any new buyers. That is why Linden Labs is at the reigns when it comes to stopping the fall of the $L. Buyers and sellers are at fault only on the market side, since they are the onces that agree on the prices. Those creating or buying in world are not effecting a thing price wise for the $L.

Raise prices all you want ....

You can raise prices all you want, but it doesn't mean people will buy if they think the items are overpriced. There is a point at which it just becomes ridiculous even when you have a healthy amount of Linden's banked. When I see prices that are exhorbitant, especially for items of poor quality, there is no way I'll be spending money. All I see is greed then. Also the longer a player has been in SL, the less they need. One could argue they need nothing, so purchases are made based on desire or whim. After almost two years of shopping in SL, I'm fairly selective when it comes to new purchases. Quality is essential with higher prices. Even then, some are just too outrageously high for me to bother with and I do love to shop!

My guess is you will pay more at some point or learn to create what you want, because people expect a certain return on their efforts. Or you can hold on to your $L forever, refusing to spend them. Fortunately, the cost of copies is $0, so the prices of current goods may stay constant.

The good news is......

I saved a ton on my car insurance :)
