And if you buy 26000 L$ worth of goods and the seller wants to take that money out of SL, Who is going to be there to buy it from him? NO ONE!!

Let's see, March 2006:
Money created: ~52.3M L$
Money removed: ~17.8M L$ (delta ~34.5M L$)
Lindex Volume: ~200M L$ (rough estimate)
Total available money: ~574M L$
GDP: ~1559M L$

Apparently there are plenty of people who are willing to buy the money from stipends and much more.

u dont really own land in RL either

try not paying ur taxes and see how long u keep it.
Quite a while, in some cases. The taxing authority can't just take your land, they have to go through a legal process (which varies from place to place and country to country). And your liability may be limited to the delinquent taxes and costs... if there's any money left over after the taxes and associated costs are covered you may get some of it back.

$200 a month for a fully managed (Dedicated) server, is actually a pretty good deal.
You don't get a full server: there are at least 4 sims on all new servers, so you're getting a virtual server. And you don't get a root shell or administrator login, which you would from a virtual server. This is more like high end webhosting, really.

I'm paying $45 a month for my virtual colo, and I get a root shell on it.

Argent:

If you purchase a large island in SL--i.e. control 4 contiguous sims--do you get a root shell or administrator login?

Nope. That's one reason it's more like high-end webhosting than colo server rental.

Okay, last two questions. Perhaps Argent or Hiro can answer theses.

1. If a user purchases a large island (4 contiguous sims), can they request--and get--more memory or different processors?

2. I read somewhere that LL may eventually lease the SL engine so that a user or group can setup their own server farm from which to host their portion of SL. Is there any truth to this report and if so what is the status?

As SL passes the cusp of the exponential growth curve, it will not be too long until it is physically undesirable (or possible) to keep up with new server and bandwidth demand. LL will have to franchise/lease out the SL engine to third-party farms or face significant financial burdens.

Besides, distributing the resources will significantly reduce the chances of the entire SL world going off grid as it does from time to time right now. It could (if LL permits) also allow user groups the opportunity to alter certain aspects of their sims's physics and prim limits.
