I keep hearing these rumors that LL is going to take away developer incetives and render dwell useless. I have not been able to find any threads in the forums. Can anyone verify this rumore or crush it?

Can anyone verify this rumore or crush it? It's true. DI is going away. They felt that it wasn't accurately distributing cash to the developers of compelling content and instead those who paid people a pittance to simply fill space. [see: camping chairs] |

DI is being phased out by March, Dwell has no slated funeral date, but Robin has as much stated as it's on the todo list.
And since you brought it up, how is this going to affect VGI? There's been lots of rumormongering about this being the end of camping chairs in SL, and a lot of people arguing it won't or taking middle ground. As a camping chair operator, what's your stance? Is this going to hurt VGI to the point of closure or is it only a small factor, if at all? (not sure if you have been one of the DI receivers before.) _____________________

Sure man, bring up the question I was gently prodding at. ![]() Yes, well, I was aiming more at a serious inquiry to the future of VGI, rather than a subtle jab. I did thoroughly enjoy your post, however. ![]() _____________________

Actually, I've examined the VGI locales (mostly because i was looking at the map and in awe of there being 23 people in a PG snow sim) and I must say I find them less zombieriffic than other popular camping locations. I guess that multiplier keeps people engaged a bit more, though there were a few slumped [Away] avs that didn't move the entire time I was there.

Yeah, I've mentioned in another thread that I don't believe camping chairs are going away just because DI is for that reason. I've seen a lot of people post similar opinions. Most of them seem to be casinos, and I personally know people who've paid those slot machines a lot more than they'll make from the camping chairs in a long time. Plus there's vendors and advertising, and we still have dwell. I have a few friends who like to hangout at a couple of camping locations, one of them being a VGI outlet. They usually have a good time acting silly and doing wacky antics from their camping chairs while laughing at the occasional griefer who drops by. There'll always be the zombies though. I personally don't like camping chairs, but nothing says I have to use them. I hang out with friends who are camping sometimes, but I find other places to plant my butt (like sitting on the bartender, that guy is rude, throws you across the grid when you sit on his head. What's up with that?).

Is this going to hurt VGI to the point of closure or is it only a small factor, if at all? (not sure if you have been one of the DI receivers before.) Actualy, VGI doesn't rely on dwell at all. Dwell is a very small factor if any at all. The only thing it does is put my locations on the popular list. As for the DI, I make more money in 2 days of operation than I would get in one months DI check. I just think its messed up to take something away that drives people to develop stuff. I don't like recieving the DI money because of the cash, but because it shows SL appreciation for what I have developed. Unlike the other camping chairs you see out there, VGI has developed a new type of casino. this isn't about VGI getting dwell, its about a casino offering more than just gambling, or sitting. we off it both in a competitive environment! _____________________

i agree with games prototype:

Unlike the other camping chairs you see out there, VGI has developed a new type of casino. this isn't about VGI getting dwell, its about a casino offering more than just gambling, or sitting. we off it both in a competitive environment! ***************************************************************************** the original reason for the chairs was to get people to stay and play the games but many have abused that purpose and just cashed in on the camping money... its gotten so bad that people fight and cause so much problems... so many have that owners have had to compete with higher payouts or less time to earn and so on but the slots/chair things i think works out great cause you got to pay to earn that high amount that so in the end it becomes more of a real casino the way its supposed to be... owners not counting on the dwelling as much as they count more on people playing the slots... |
