Do you think they'll make it so islands are visible again?

You know, it doesn't really matter.

The damage is already done - island owners and everyone else realises that they're a low priority.

Sure, they'll fix the bug. But for how long? Will they bother testing for the bug next release?

Never mind the bloody ISLANDS Blaze - I couldn't see my mainland sim for the 4-5 hours or so I was logged in yesterday. The best I got was - wait for it - a grey blur *sigh*

Sound familiar? How about a poll? Should SL 1.7 be renamed 'The Grey Blur Release'?

Yeah, but the story is told - islands and mainland sims are not on an equal footing.

Am I missing something? I see private sims on the map & can teleport to them as usual. Are not all showing up?

When you zoom out they won't show. Only when you zoom in their images are being loaded. Try turn off everything (telehubs, users, events etc), then zoom out and you will notice.

The real question is...

Is there any minor problem in existence that Blaze won't jump on before anyone has had time to even think about fixing it and make a long complaining forum post about it?

I'm only surprised that you dont post a complaint every time you experience a bit of lag or buy an ugly dress.

This bug is very fundamental for me.. as it shows perfectly the attitude of LL has towards people who seriously invest in them.

Heh. :)

I could also say, the texture alpha rendering bug which is fundamental to me shows that LL doesn't prioritize builders and people who use alpha textures,ect...
Or that the way XML_RPC is implemented discriminates against complex scripting projects...
Or, that the way Quicktime was implemented is buggy,
or about a dozen other things...

I think the "damage" blaze speaks of having been "already done", isn't singling out people who have private islands and showing that LL has a "low priority" any more than these other things have singled everyone else out a LONG time ago.

Explain.

I somehow doubt that Linden Labs manufactured this problem for the sole purpose of aggrivating sim owners. It's my assumption it's a bug in Second Life, as a result of the mapper problems they've been having recently.

Has anyone posted anything about this in the bug reporting thread? LL cannot fix a bug they do not know about :P

Anyway, complaining and finger pointing go nowhere to getting the problem solved. If anything, it'll make them more likely to put it on the back burner. I liken it to being nasty to a waitress in a restaurant when the service you're getitng isn't up to your standards. People think that yelling and being nasty to their waiter/waitress will get them better and faster service, when all it does is make it more likely for him/her to ignore you, and possibly spit in your food.

If you're really interested in getting the bug fixed, post a thread in the appropriate place, with constructive information regarding the symptoms.

Maybe Linden Labs has figured out how to "spit in the food" of the really bitchy people... Probably not.. the techs working with problems don't have to deal with the forums after all... :D

Nope, not the Grey Blur Update, it should be the Grey-Blur, wait for the textures to load so they can cycle insanely Update.

Yeah Blaze, I'm sure LL plans their bugs ahead of time so that they're representative of their sinister biases!

Ficcy Wiki Whacki Wu!!! A bug for me - a bug for you!

I'd be more convinced it was fundamental if I knew who blaze were...

(yes deliberately mixing up plurals there).

Till then its just biz as usual - troll city..

For the record I don't have any trouble seeing private islands - I read this post thinking 'WTF?'

Maybe I'm just so FIC that the bug doesn't effect me :)

Here is my view after trying like Anshe says, unclicking everything like people and telehubs and zooming out. A pretty serious bug I'd say. I would make this an inline attachment but they seem to be busted right now.

Map view - where are the islands?

I don't see this as too big of an issue. The islands show up as long as you're somewhat zoomed in; which you need to be anyways in order to read the sims name.

I kinda hope they don't make island sims visible from furthest zoom again. It makes the map much cleaner, puts more focus ont he mainland, and well i just hated seeing all those dots.

Wow. I must admit, when you posted this and the other one "is this a bug" post, I was pretty sure that this was something that wouldn't be that hard or too long of a wait to fix.

When Islands post update were first delivered, they didn't show up on the map at all - completely invisible even when you zoom in. So LL said they would not charge until they had fixed this and they showed up. They stayed true to their word, and the setup fees were not charged until 10 days later when the sims at least showed up when you zoom in. The amusing part is that the land fees were charged from sim arrival, not when they showed up on the map/set up fees were charged.

Well at least you can see them when you zoom in now. Any estate sims delivered immediately after the update could not be seen even when you zoomed in. LL did at least assure us that they wouldn't charge for the sim until they showed up. Well true to their word, they didn't charge for the setup of the sims until at least that part was fixed (about 10 days later). The part I found amusing tho, is that the land fees have still been charged from the day they were delivered, and not from when they became visible (well at least when you zoom in). So the 10 days doesn't really amount to anything ;)

It pisses me off that when I finally do get the map up, it loads and loads and loads again even when I'm just looking at it. Then if I close the window and re-open it, it has to load the whole bloody thing again! It's a map - it doesn't change that often. One load of a static picture on opening the client would be far better. Some of us are on capped connections!
