From: Nikolaii Uritsky Maybe I should just stay out of this, but I would like to throw in a few words as the owner and builder of the ugly white thing.  No one in Pimushe has said anything negative to me about the build at all. A few people -have- complained at events about the brightness, which is why we haven't had any since we moved to Pimushe, but no one from the community has said a word. I've been planning to make it a dark grey on the inside (and possibly the outside as well), but I've been busy and haven't gotten to it. Besides the few people who have complained about the 360 degrees of white when inside, everyone else has gone on and on about how much they love it. I've recieved several building ratings (all positive), and even a positive rating from April when I was first constructing it. I guess she didn't expect it to stay white. All I want to say is that I would have been happy to change the outside color if someone had said something to me about it. I really would have appreciated an IM or two from the people who don't like my build instead of finding out from my friends that there's a forum post up about me. A simple "Hey, I don't want to be an ass, but can you make that build less white? My eyes are burning out of my head!" would have been fine, and I would have been happy to change it. I really don't think it was neccessary to make a whole thread about my house without even talking to me about it first. Generally, threads are made -after- you talk to the owner and they tell you to go suck an egg. Not before. And, because of that, you're just going to have to wait until I get around to changing it. In any case, if April is going to move just because she doesn't like my build, but apparently doesn't dislike it enough to actually contact me about it, then I guess her land wasn't that important to her anyway. Next time, really, try talking to the owner before you decide to bash on the forum. ' I didn't really think you were the owner hon, I'm sorry. I thought you were hired. You nted in several threads that you said you were poor, so I didn't think you were paying the $1000 a week rent on that land. It was Jauani Wu's idea that I take it to the forums. I am sorry I offended you. Yes I thought your building skills were good, especially the rounded corners and no Ididn't think it would stay "blinding white". I have nothing against you and was even thinking of hiring you to do an artsy web page for my group.

And since the joke predates you (I think) an english-as-a-second-language player was posting about concerns that her product concept was being duplicated. The phrase she used "stop to sell babies in a box" became one of the best catch-phrases around. Even she who coined it ultimately found the humor in it. I'd be honored if my words were as widely cited, even in jest, which isn't likely to happen as I'm probably the poster child for "ignore posts by this user". So here are some coinages to see if I can be part of the SL zeitgeist: - I endorse this product and/or core.
- SL is not a fetid game.
- There is no inner spoon.
- Buy a life for only L$1500.
- Buy my hand.
- Lag takes away pain, the pain of high frame rates.
- I can parody me, but if you do, I'll be crabby.

Honestly, I don't think subtlety and wit are features that are understood on these boards. Since so much of that tends to rely on voice and body language in real life, a lot of it tends to get lost in the forums. Italics helps. Really, though. The whole FIC is like the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy in real life. The very act of naming it created it, it was quickly adopted by those who disagreed with the person who stated it, and now it's a badge of honor.

I dont know you and you dont me. I dont know any private details of any situations on any case any person ever fought over tooth and nail in anyones corner that involved you. Im basically a nobody who hangs out in my neck of the woods in game and ocassionally trolls the forums. However, I - like many others may make a decision someday in the game based on things we have read in the forums. I have followed your posts on the forums for quite some time and I must say that I have admired the majority of your writings and have agreed with you alot as well. You do tend to get long winded and I skip alot of your stuff, but I understand you and what your trying to accomplish. The only part I dont understand in any of your arguments, is when you start calling people names and branding them, or stereotyping them into a group when you feel you are loosing your grip in the argument. I dont understand how that wins your case or adds merit to your claim. Im reading along, Im hanging with ya, Im in your corner. . . then BAM out it comes - you brand someone. It seems you give up and feel like the only way you can topple the argument is by using a name or a placing them in a category. We have not crossed paths in all these months in game - and probably never will - I just want to share that with you from someone who is trying to look objectively at all these issues. I think you could gain alot more ground if you stop with the name calling. At this point, I would be afraid to have a dealing with you that if we ever disagreed on something, you would place me in one of your "categories" just because we dont agree. Dont get me wrong, I am a big girl and can take name calling. It just when you do that, the walls come up and we would never get anywhere.

It's funny, everytime I hear someone complaining about "I live next to an ugly build" I am picturing misaligned boxes with no windows, covered in that sky blue texture and casino games on top. Then I see examples of what you are actually complaining about and I just what to say, "Shut up your freaking whining already before I buy the land and put a misaligned badly textured box next door to you that is ten stories high with a particle producing rotating sign on top so you will really have something to cry about." People who spend all day complaining about other people's builds annoy the crap out of me, especially when they have nothing that even border line resembles taste.

I already stated my reasons for not saying anything about it before (i.e. its none of my business). If this thread had not arisen, I would still have said nothing about it. You keep your house how YOU and your friends that use it want it to be. If you want it white, leave it white. If you want to recolor it, recolor it. If you want to texture it, texture it. I live across the street and up that big hill and don't have to look at your house. If the house was right in my face every day and really bothered me so much, I would have talked with you about it. If you want my opinion, I like the house. I think its very nicely designed. As I stated before, and others appear to have said to you as well, its a tad hard on the eyes being so bright. My reason for responding at all in this thread was to give my opinion of the events that were going on. Just another monkey , -Ghoti This was not my idea to come to the forum, it was J-Wu's. I tried to wait it out and I voiced my feelings about it to the community. I tried hard to comply with the rules of Pimushe. My original build was modified because J-Wu felt the community wouldn't like it. I even moved my builds up above the clouds not to offend. But after seeing the othher building there for almost a month and having to deal with the difficulties of double teleporting to get up to my houses in the sky, I decided to bring my houses down. I tried very hard to cooperate with the loosely based rules of Pimushe. Perhaps that was my fault. I should have left my original builds in place and not worried about community standards. I guess this is all my fault. I apologize to everyone I've offended. I'm sorry if I handled this badly. I was trying to work within the available system and I failed. Believe me I will be paying the price. I have already lowered the price to $L7.0 m2 and the only offer I've gotten is for $L5.0/m2. So I am humbled and sad and I have learned my lesson well. Whereever I go from now on, I will not complain about anyone else's build, nor will I try so hard to comply with anyone else's standards.

The other resident, Ghoti, has summed it up -- white, hard on the eyes maybe a bit, but not unreasonable, and one can talk about these things precisely in a community group established for that purpose. April, turn your draw distance down. It will cause you less heartache if you can't see past what you buy. And wait 30 days for your sale to go through at the price you want, it will.

I wish it were that simple. I actually use my land on a daily basis. I have a wonderful inntertube ride. As you can see from the pictures it reflects the moon and is so relaxing but it ends with that view. Again I guess I should just keep my mouth shut but since you suggested I just wait, I wanted to try to explain my reasons. Also, I love that Richard Stern building. It makes me feel like I'm living in a sophisticated loft Many can attest to the fact that I was overjoyed to find it was a building you complimented. But now that I know you don't like it where it was, it's uncomfortable for me to put it back. But thank you for your concern. It means a lot to me.

And you are taking away exactly the WRONG lesson. If you do not like a person's build, talk to them rationally (in this case, pre-existing rivalries may have made this impossible). If one of your neighbors comes to you to complain rationally about your build, consider their opinion for what it is (the opinion of someone that lives near you and cares enough to approach you with their concerns) and abide as you see fit.

I would approach a similar situation as so: IM: Hi Bob, welcome to the neighborhood! I noticed you were moving in, and building a very interesting structure. I really like the curved lines and the way you blended the base into the terrain. I did want to mention that the glaring white color you are using is very hard on the eyes. You might want to make it a slightly darker shade to help alleviate that. I’m wondering, are you planning on texturing your house? If you need textures, I have many free ones I can give you, and if you want, I can even create new textures to match the concept you have for your building. I look forward to hearing from you. Something like that. It addresses my issues to them without attacking them or their build. -Ghoti
