So please, be my guest. Please detail why it is that valuation of
the Linden Dollar has declined from around L$170 in Sept04 to
L$290 in Mar06? And now it is flirting with L$300.

Because Linden dollars are pretty worthless, and US dollars are still worth a little something?

Just a wild guess.

The truth is there is very little content in Second Life that is worth paying for. I know that there is some, but not a whole heck of a lot.

I wish someone would teach Spanish or something, that might be worth paying for. This place is too wrapped up in itself; it won't really be worth much until it stops being "just a game" and starts being a tool for living.

Someone needs to make a skirt that fluctuates in length based on L$ price!

Auto Hemline

Then you could have FASHION and L$ UNITED TOGETHER!

RBD, I don't think the daily turnover is removed from the economy, I've never said that. Even more the fact that the turnover is that huge and indeed stays in the economy is part of the proof that you're mistaken.

My point on stipends is easy:
If stipends drive down the demand for L$ and hence influence the rate then why do you see a turnover of at least 6M L$ a day? Even better, you can easily see that the turnover on the Lindex has progressivly grown hence demand is increasing. Apparently stipends aren't keeping people away from trading L$ at all. Weekly turnover exceeds the stipends by far so people are still interested in having more L$ to spend again.

Note that there's thousands of stipend that 'll never really come into the game anyway. SL just like any other similar environment has thousands of idle people who never log in. That's where already a lot of the money you fear is going. It's just idling away on accounts.

If tomorrow stipends would be cut entirely what you would see would be pretty simple: the rate would still go down. Demand would in no way rise a lot nor would there be any reason for those holding millions to stop selling. You could just start to look for another easy explanation and can wait untill they "fix" that.

You're looking at a complex interweaved system that can not be measured in raw figures. You should use real life standards like purchasing power to measure the health of your economy. The example L$/m² I gave before is a good start. It 'll help you understand why those selling L$ don't care the rate is where it currently is.

You and others seem to inherently link the rate with good and bad while there's no such thing. For something to be bad you've to be able to pinpoint who's hurting. So let's get down to the core question:
Who's being hurt by the dropping rate?

I don't want to have the next pointless discussion on stipends, dropping rates being bad, amounts of L$ on the Lindex ... I just want to hear who's hurting. If nobody is, nothing is wrong.

What the "kill the stipend" people are also missing is that demand might FALL if the stipends were eliminated, thus making SL less fun, and driving away active players.
