Recently, Prokofy Neva posted an essay that said, in a nutshell, "LL is anti-business".
(For the purpose of this discussion, "business" means reselling land, renting land, making things to sell, running shops and malls, hosting events, etc.
At tonight's town meeting, Phillip Linden said several things that seem to indicate that he's very pro-business. For example, he touted SL's "GDP" growth rate relative to China's, and the amount of money that residents turn over every day. In fact, he doesn't want to shut up about it.
He also said he would prefer to have residents handling zoning through rentals and private management (i.e., private sims), and not have LL manage things.
So what happened?

Sounds like Prok was wrong.
LL has never, to my recollection, wanted to stay in the middle of our world and has for sometime wanted to remove themselves from certain managerial duties, so it came as no surprise they are against LL-based government and for allowing us to generate the types of businesses we need to grow.

Sorry, I missed the regularly scheduled whine tonight. But if it's needed, someone could always call the Waaaaahmbulance to tend to him.
Anyway....
No business is this industry is in business to lose money. Period. Anyone who thinks otherwise is off their meds. If there is a high enough interest to warrant their re-thinking how they do things, they'll do it. But it certainly is not going to occur as a result of this individual's constant carping, whining, shrieking, et al, ad nauseam.
Simply put, they might be right, but they long since shot their credibility and hence, are doomed to run about playing chicken little while the rest of us go about our various pursuits of enjoyment in spite of them.
C'est la vie.

I wouldn't pay too much heed to Prok, Hiro. It would seem that at some point in her life she decided that she would have a better (more interesting? more amusing?) time in life if she picked out the worst possible things in any and every situation.
In a nutshell, don't worry about *anything* Prok says, she's an alarmist and just general pessimist.
Why not join me in the sandbox for a building session instead? I promise I won't complain about well...anything.

"Has Buster Peel stopped beating his wife?" I suspect that the question of Buster Peel's (probably untrue) domestic abuse, which has never been discussed in forum, (edited)

So what happened? Oh, well, Buster, that's just because he read my post and saw the error of his ways. Seriously, though, Buster, have you gotten that oldbie disease of Swedish Stockholm Syndrome? This is the man who is responsible for a) losing all your build's prims and b) devaluing your land and/or making you have to dump it in the last 2 weeks. Huh? China? China? It's an awful example, given the lengths they go to suppress dissent, violate human rights, oppress Tibet, buy oil from the murderous government of Sudan, etc. etc. He could have picked some other more benign country to make the same point, I dunno, Malawi or something. A GDP can grow without having a liberal market economy, that's not proof of being pro-business. It could only be that he is pro-business *just for me and my friends* or *just for the state and the chaibols* or whatever similar model that actually doesn't create a market economy. I'm glad he celebrated the $80 US average that players turn over to each other, and not to LL. Then go the rest of the way, Philip, and get your frigging face out of the events schedule business. Leave it alone. If anything, add another list for commercial events, product displays, etc. Let those 3 1/2 people who want to play chess just retired to PG living in Brown where I have set up a chess pavilion for them I'm so glad Phil gave the nod to player-based zoning and rentals. But...this is just a guy who is talking now, and spinning. He didn't actually *do* anything yet. He's just trying to deflect severe criticism. I'll bet he absorbed one very clear message in the last week: how angry his top investors among players were over Ryan Linden's letter that crashed the market to $2/Meter. I'll bet he got that message loud and clear and will be thinking quite a bit before meddling like that again with social-engineering ideas and subsidies only to FIC projects. We still have no clue whether Phil will remove officer recall, or provide new tools to create "group founder" or "investor" as a higher power than the other officers because they own land and pay tier. When Phil is ready to take that big step, I will know that he has grown up out of all his childish leftish foolish ideas and acquired some common sense. He will have shaken loose from the server the handful and cranks and nutters that go on spouting ideologies to "protect the landless" blah balh. But he hasn't done that yet, has he? And the real proof in the pudding of how anti-business LL remains is Phil's HORRIBLE lapse on the events cock-up. He was completely unbriefed on this issue that was the top issue for the community really, whether pro and con. He had no knowledge even of this issue, nor anything to say about it but some lame "we'll look into it". So while you're ready to credit Phil with turning around and becomine "pro-business" or actually having been that all along, I don't see it.

"Is LL anti-business?" is a more interesting question than "Was player x wrong?" no matter what value is substituted for x.
