Some things are the same the world over! Not long here either but think the process is longer than most of the US.

but your visa does not permit you to talk while vacationing in our country'

Sorry, I access from Japan and not the United States. You are the one that needs the visa to visit my terminal. :) Free speech is not limited to Americans in the United States, It is one of the reasons I think the United States of America is a GREAT country. Uncle Sam is an example for everyone to aspire for better.

To be fair both sides of this have there plus and minus, positive and negative. Land is more stable here but it brings about stagnation. It also brings about higher prices. Someone has to pay for my friend’s cable. It comes in the form of higher condo fees. It would be hard to make a Wall mart her for that and other reasons. There has to be a middle ground somewhere for reasonable people. I hear that it has already started in many state legislatures due to the news sotries. Hope my discussion is not taken as "anti-American" but as a different viewpoint.

How does this all relate to SL? Easy we all bring the "baggage" of our beliefs with us. It is study of what makes us human. Perhaps Kyleus Musketeer will get another lot where he can see the sun set and be happy. I certainly hope so then everyone will have what they desire.

The dismal science ...

Ranma, everyone cannot get what they desire. That is the teaching of "the dismal science" of economics. What I desire may be what you now possess. You may desire to keep it.

The conflict between competing desires can be resolved by the pricing system and markets, or through government allocation, or by the stronger grabbing from the weaker what they want. Sometimes a mixture of all three.

I believe that we are still in the head-scratching stage in SL, watching to see what processes will evolve or be installed to reconcile those competing desires. Debates like that in this thread help bring out the issues and possible solutions.

Just an aside: I wasn't prepared for a round of USA-bashing. I have my own pet criticisms of my country, as well as other countries, but I thought this forum was supposed to be about SL.

If your pets have something to say, let them say it!

I have my problems with Japan as well. Just different ones. My whole point is that we make our own world, good, bad or indifferent. Of course the Lindens control this one absolutly unlike real life. Suppose if you hate it enough you can come up with your own.

It is ideal of paying for something and then having it taken away. Might makes right I suppose. The powerful in Japan do the same things. I did hear that they will be moved but at the others persons convience, not theirs.

A *update* A group of condo buildings and hotels have been found to be built not meeting earthquake standards. They might fall down in a moderate quake. The company has proposed buying back the units at 105%, helping with moving expenses, blah, blah. The catch is they will make the payments in a few months after moveout and tear down. What will probally happen is that the people will accept sign over their units and move out, the units gets demolished, the condo company goes bankrupt. The people will have no condo unit but will still have to make payments. The architect firm has already fired all of its employees and will filed for bankrupcy. (It faked its engineering numbers) The goverment will probally not help. There are dozens of these buildings. What a country! Never happen in America, remember Japan is not better than America just different. I memtion the above because it affects my interactions with other people. It makes me the trusting person I am ;)

Happy "Ending"?

I must admit that I have been given a reasonable offer by Anshe Chung's representatives to move. I chose to buy more land (not discounted of course) which made the deal even sweeter for her company to relocate me to premium land and my home is now on the western "shores" of Oppenheimer. Once again, my friends and I may bask in the particles of SL's sun, listening to the streams of the surf and gulls and, best of all, enjoy the orange glow of SL's amazing sunsets for "some time."

But that is not what this thread was about! I would like to think that somehow those who have the responsibility of being "game leaders" would learn from the experience: If you spring a large change on many people without giving them some voice or alternatives, there will be hurt feelings, frustration, anger, etc. I know that one of my two other affected neighbors has left Anshe territory for a more stable island. I noticed also that the vacant inland lots are not filling quickly. It would appear that "surf" is still golden in an archipelago that wants to become a continent. But it appears the stone mill keeps grinding and "progress" continues with abandon. I have not heard of any interest by Anshe to have a real citizens group for Dreamland who will be briefed on current and future changes and whose ideas be given real value. Rather, the current group, "Citizens of Dreamland", appears to be an IM forum for lonely and scared voices that need help from absent "Anshe's Angels." And so it goes, "as above so below."
