Having the ability to dump a single model of your char (no dynamics attached) and a simple utility to check texture maps would be a minor godsend. I dont think that an offline editor is a good idea, nor would it make sense to worry about simpler objects, but the texture mapping on the charmodel is rather hard to anticipate.

(would make shoes and text on shirts SO much easier)

oh, and the whole L/R arm thing switching to individual maps would be nice, but is not that important

You do know that there are templates available on this website, right? I believe you can get them under downloads. Also, I suggest you use search next time, I believe this was brought up in a different thread.

Welcome to the SL Community, hope you are enjoying yourself! Feel free to IM me at any time if you need help. :)

yup, the templates are great, except they dont fit the model linerly and the model has some strange bumps in odd places (see shoulderblade on any male avatar). All the other posts I saw (using a search no less) were for a GENERAL object viewer/editor. I was looking for a much more specific and limited util that afforded maximum protection to Linden Labs IP.

get the old black templates inworld, in the avatar bundle. Lay them over the newer ones and there you go. Its also a good idea to search threads before posting. There are many saying all these same things.

Old black meshes are here...

... in this thread

Like Mis says, paste them on top of the other ones (this will keep the bleed area, which the black ones don't have). I added them as a new layer then turned the transparency down so the others showed through too. Makes lining edges and patterns up much easier.

I've used the UV maps now, much easier and more precise. I'll layer the UV with the new templates, zip it and send a copy to this discussion. I still think a generic head model would make photo texturing easier, but thanks for everyone who helped out.
