I haven't had an offline IM in a while, so I haven't checked recently. Will do soon.

Checked it, and the emails get bounced. Ok, I am wrong, things are way f*cked up indeed. From: Draco18s Majestic <-_KT-YLTs92XztruQJ07VxWqx-jWS7sHzgscIMU7DvNr1H5Bt79Tig@im.agni.lindenlab.com> However, replying to the email at that address did work and UUID did not. I think that the email address seen above is is some kind of hash of my UUID and the Alt who I used to get the email's UUID such that the system knows who sent the email AND who it goes to so it can put the IM in the proper place. (I've altered one or more alpha-numberic characters to prevent being spammed). |

This changed very recently. It used to be the UUID. Now it's a session ID so the email servers can look them up faster. If you reply within some time interval, it picks up the same session context. If you reply much later, it creates a new session. These sessions aren't visible to the user, just internal stuff. This is in the blog or release notes somewhere.

Just wanted to give the initial idea another vote. I miss that feature very bad and it should be not much work to add it to the secondlife website. Friends online are shown already. If they'd add a simple IM to them, from the website, this would be no security issue (you ARE logged in and confirmed) and would do it for most cases.

When I'm not in the possibility to use the SL client to contact my friends I use the program SLeek. Its a text base only client that logs into SL.

If your are using HOTMAIL it might not work. Read the following knowledge base article:
http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=411 * Outbound IM to email works for Hotmail * Inbound email to IM does not work for Hotmail * The email addresses use mixed case (UpAndDown). Hotmail appears to convert all sent email to use only lower case. More information about the e-mail return-address was on the blog a few weeks ago: http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/02/06/im-to-e-mail-return-addresses-changing/ "If you enable the 'Offline IM to e-mail' setting in Preferences then IMs received when you are offline will be e-mailed to you. You can reply to these e-mail messages and they will be converted back into IMs inside Second Life. Currently you must reply to these e-mails within 3 days, otherwise you will receive a “session expired” error. We are increasing this limit to 5 days." Meni. |

You CAN recieve IM's through email, however, you can not respond to them. Thats the problem. Yes you can. I use email to IM people all the time. The next time you get an email respond to it and the message will go directly to the friend in SL. |
