You think Voice made headlines across the world - I sure hope Lindenlabs picks this feature request up - it would totally change the way we use the internet...

When will we see an internet Browser in world that multiple people can view at once?
08-17-2007 20:30
Consider this:

*a room full of collaborating avatars each browsing the internet on a separate prim. You walk up to one avatar, and you can see what they are browsing and have a discussion about it.

*Or how about a local business who is selling widgets on the internet, suddenly gets their own island, sets up shop. You arrive, and walk up to them, they explain their widget to you, and you are interested in buying it. You both turn around and the sales person displays their website in world, and guides you to their web checkout.

In order to realise the emerging 3D web, I beleive we need this sort of integration, the 2D web INWORLD.

Lindenlabs seams to be close - we already can see a web page using the secondlife program. However, we need you, Lindenlabs, to take it one step further, and take a direction software like Open Croquet is taking.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but from what I can see, Open Croquet already allows users to edit text on a prim in world, and also display text on a prim in world
as well as displaying an internet browser in world

see:

- however, you are the leaders of the emerging i3D
- so lets take it one step further and provide this killer functionality....

what do ya say?

If you are interested in HTML on a PRIM - DIGG this story!
08-20-2007 03:26
Hey everyone, If you are interested in HTML on a prim, take a quick minute to digg this story: by following this link:

If we can get it higher on the DIGG list, perhaps some savvy programmers will start contributing to the project as well!

Just a question about Digg:

Is there some LOGICAL reason that I can't read what's on Digg without having an account?

Why was this feature request abandoned????
09-16-2007 06:20
I Just checked the feature request voting board

and it appears it was picked up by: Callum and James Linden, however has now been abandoned! I think this feature would be a major step forward for Secondlife,
have you checked out ubrowser.com???? its amazing... imagine the possiblities if we had this ability.

If you want this feature, please vote for either:
http://secondlife.com/vote/vote.php?get_id=5
(which has been abandoned - without explanation)

or

http://secondlife.com/vote/vote.php?get_id=1145
which is a vote to continue the project

Thanks everybody!!!

And Linden Labs, can u please explain why it was abandoned?

Thanks!

Probably due to the...
FACT THAT THE VOTE FEATURE IS DEAD!
Use Jira.

/vote never did it's job. If you take a look at the list of completed items there's all of, like, four. Got to jira.secondlife.com and look at the list of completed items: hundreds!

How many times do I have to repeat myself on these boards.

Um.... if its dead, then why the heck is it still up and operational??? Thats pretty confusing if you asked me... infact, I was led to that board through the wiki, or jira one or the other, the link to the vote board came from there....

if the vote feature is dead, it should be removed immediatly, and people should be re-routed to jira.... instead of relying on helpful people like you to tell us!

heh... I felt like Ive just been inline for a concert, finally got to the front entrance, and the guy at the counter has just put the "sold out" sign up...

nice

they could have told me that there were only 20 tickets left before I waited in line for 8 hours!

This is a trick question, huh? Like: How many Lindens does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

The wiki is out of date, the only people who can change it are the Lindens and we all know how long it took them to update the online help.

As for direct links to Vote, there used to be one above the First Look Viewer forum, but if you look now it's a link to the Jira wiki page!

There's also both stickies (used to be /vote!) at the top of this forum, hell, even one of them was created by a Linden!

Sticky Thread Sticky: Got a New Feature Request? Use the Second Life Issue Tracker!

If I get one more person who posts a link to /vote I'm going to make a whole thread ranting about it's deadness just so I can post links back at them instead of typing the damn rant over and over.

its like having a note on your front door that says: "please go to the back door" but when you get the back door you see another note saying "please go to the front door"

i swear, its for pure amusement, only perhaps the "fake" voting sight is some sort of "filtering system"

hmmmm......

No, it's more like having a note on the front saying go to the back, but there are two back doors, one that goes nowhere (the basement) and the other that leads into the house.

The other note is on a side door that says go to the basement door.
