Edge radius

It would be really nifty if the prims could have an attribute called edge radius. Ideally this would be uniquely adjustable per each edge, even created ones due to making things hollow or cut, twisted, etc. If this had to be a global for each prim that would be OK to start. I've noticed that some builds, mine included, could benefit from things like this. It would soften the world and make things more organic. The world just looks too sharp and harsh to be comfortable at times. How I envision that this would work is a cylinder of radius 0 would be the default for a sharp edge, and as the radius increased the edge would become the intersection of the cylinder and the face. The end result would look like the object has a half bullnose edge. I think this would improved the visual quality of SL and allow for cleaner looking builds without having to add extra prims.

Hah, I just made this gigantic house with almost all the corners rounded like that. It would have cut down on a LOT of prims if we were able to do that. I second this idea.

I think people have been talking about this for a while, though, so I doubt it's going to be implemented anytime soon, but, hey! The more people who mention a need for this, the better.

Once again... here's the effective way something like that is done.

The problem is you need to take into consideration the number of resulting faces and, if necessary, compensate for it so people don't run around the sandboxes rezzing "cubes" with 10,000 faces to draw.

I think this could be done without to much trouble

if you allied the side texture to corosponding half of the rounded edge.

The polygon count wouldn't be so bad because it would just approuch a sphere in the number of polygons.

Yep, here's an earlier thread suggesting the same thing:

Rounded corners on prims
