Okay, we all have questions to LL about this Age Verification, and they say they are paying attention and reading things, so here goes...
What do you, as a Resident of Second Life, want to know about the impending Age Verification?
My questions would be::
1) Is LL going to require (not ask, but demand through compliance with the ToS) plots/sims with certain types of content to flag them as "adult".
2) If "Yes" to #1, then EXACTLY what are those conditions? ie, acts, items, scripts, pictures. No generalizations here, please. Give detailed examples, please, to avoid future confusion.
3) How much is this "fee" going to be? (Yes I realise LL stated on the blog they are still working on that. Listed here for reference mainly)
4) How is LL going to alert the Community that Age Verification is going to be implemented? LL needs to admit only a small % read the Blog. I am trying to pass the word in-world, but many many many Residents have no idea this is in the works. They need to be told through every means of media that LL has at it's disposal.
5) Will LL entertain the possible solution of Residents sending proof of age via other means than this 3rd party site? Say a certified statement from a lawyer, or other means that can be obtained through the Real World. cost of such options would, of course, need to be in the Resident's hands.
6) Explain EXACTLY what information is going to be needed. Not only the Real World information (SSN, Passport, address, etc) but what information will this reference through SL? Just our Account Names, or will our Second Life password be required?
Anyone got more questions?
And please, keep it mature in the questions. We are all adults, aren't we? *grins*
~Jessy

7. My question is simple, but I dont think has been brought up yet. Why age verification at all, when with a good draw distance, anyone can cam into a space up to a couple sims away? Its not going to stop anyone from viewing or purchasing adult related content. Where there is a determined person, there is a way .....

From: Jessica Elytis 1) Is LL going to require (not ask, but demand through compliance with the ToS) plots/sims with certain types of content to flag them as "adult". Yes. From: Jessica Elytis 2) If "Yes" to #1, then EXACTLY what are those conditions? They will use common sense applied to their understanding of the guidelines that their management has given them. Are you looking for a list of every possible thing that might be considered 'adult'?? Good luck with that one.. From: Jessica Elytis 3) How much is this "fee" going to be? (Yes I realise LL stated on the blog they are still working on that. Listed here for reference mainly) Really, really cheap for premiums. Not quite as cheap for non-premiums. From: Jessica Elytis 4) How is LL going to alert the Community that Age Verification is going to be implemented? They'll blog (and remember the blog headlines are displayed at the login screen) about it and probably do some number of Message of the Day thingies about it. People who refuse to read the news don't have the right to bitch about well-advertised "surprises", IMO. From: Jessica Elytis 5) Will LL entertain the possible solution of Residents sending proof of age via other means than this 3rd party site? Say a certified statement from a lawyer, or other means that can be obtained through the Real World. cost of such options would, of course, need to be in the Resident's hands. No idea. Since LL is not the ones actually doing the validations, they might pass that question off to the 3rd-party people who are. From: Jessica Elytis 6) Explain EXACTLY what information is going to be needed. Not only the Real World information (SSN, Passport, address, etc) but what information will this reference through SL? Just our Account Names, or will our Second Life password be required? Account name(s) will obviously be needed. Good question about the password. From: HolyHell Cassell 7. From: Meade Paravane Are you looking for a list of every possible thing that might be considered 'adult'?? Good luck with that one. I don't think the OP is looking for an exhaustive list but a few ballpark examples wouldn't be an unreasonable request and would allow everyone to make better judgements based on their own common sense.

Then maybe "exactly" in all caps, bold, underlined, italicized and colored red wasn't the right way to phrase it.

And, my questions: #8: please clarify the sim/parcel settings for mainland & islands. It seems like it should be: - PG sims cannot have adult (or mature) content. Period - A parcel with adult content must be flagged as adult - Adult parcels can only be accessed by age-verified residents - Non-adult parcles on sims that contain adult parcels can be accessed by anybody - Island sims work the same way as mainland sims
#9: What will non-verifieds see when they try to access an adult-flagged parcel? Something similar to ban lines?

Most of your questions have already been answered in 2 or 3 of the blog entires. From: Jessica Elytis 1) Is LL going to require (not ask, but demand through compliance with the ToS) plots/sims with certain types of content to flag them as "adult".
Yes What if Adult Content is not Flagged We require that adult content be flagged. If Residents and businesses attempt to violate this rule, we expect that such behavior will be reported by the community. Although we want to limit age-verification processes to adult content and Teen Second Life, in the event we encounter abuses of self-regulation, Second Life may have to require age-verification throughout the world. We hope that does not happen. (DL) From: Jessica Elytis 2) If "Yes" to #1, then EXACTLY what are those conditions? ie, acts, items, scripts, pictures. No generalizations here, please. Give detailed examples, please, to avoid future confusion.
[/color] - adult content is that which is overtly, graphically, or explicitly sexual in nature or intensely violent. (RL) This the 3rd version detailing the same thing - this is the detail were gonna get. For examples - when your freinds get their stuff deleted/returned by the lindens and they get suspended youll have them From: Jessica Elytis 3) How much is this "fee" going to be? (Yes I realise LL stated on the blog they are still working on that. Listed here for reference mainly)
Less than 10L premium something higher but not much money for Basic. Premium accounts will pay a very nominal fee; less than L$10, perhaps just $L1. Basic users will be able to access the service at a higher, though still one time, price. (DL)From: Jessica Elytis 4) How is LL going to alert the Community that Age Verification is going to be implemented? LL needs to admit only a small % read the Blog. I am trying to pass the word in-world, but many many many Residents have no idea this is in the works. They need to be told through every means of media that LL has at it's disposal.
Like the alert us about everythign else - a cryptic Blog Post that can be intrepted a couple of ways (probably on a friday) In addition Im sure well get a new TOS to agree to. And there will be the log on warnings. "Remember to review policy or w/e" From: Jessica Elytis 5) Will LL entertain the possible solution of Residents sending proof of age via other means than this 3rd party site? Say a certified statement from a lawyer, or other means that can be obtained through the Real World. cost of such options would, of course, need to be in the Resident's hands.
This hasnt been answered, However the 3rd party site provides Liability Protection - so I think any alternate means will still be to the alternate site. From: Jessica Elytis 6) Explain EXACTLY what information is going to be needed. Not only the Real World information (SSN, Passport, address, etc) but what information will this reference through SL? Just our Account Names, or will our Second Life password be required?
They havent finalized this yet - They suggested things like Name, Address, and last 4 digits but the rest isnt finalized yet. The Contract isnt finished yet either. When they have a contract Im pretty sure this question will get answered.

From: Adrian Zobel #10 What will LL do if someone posts his name/address/SS# on these forums and 1.4 million SL accounts verify by using that data? Two things: 1. call the police 2. what they already said they were going to do: only allow a limited number of accounts per unique set of RL data

My STATEMENT (not questions) to the Lindens is very simple. I run a private island, at 198.00 per month, that comes to a little over 2000.00 per year. Seems to me they can lose 2000.00 per year from one account. But I wonder, can you afford to lose 20 of those? 30? 40? I will not be giving the Lindens or any OTHER company online anything other than a birth date and credit card number. If the cotton pickin FBI and VA can be victims of hackers, then this "world" we live in definately can be. Can anyone say "Your passwords have been stolen"? Linden Labs, you folks need to take a breather because you obviously haven't thought this through. Count 5 others that will go when I do, we will not pay for land and be forced into this kind of garbage. Won't happen

Meade, Colette, too funny, the OP asked for questions we want answered by LL and you couldn't resist answering for LL. Are you two Lindens Anyway, my question(s): 11a) Will there be different status of "Unverifieds" to differentiate the following: - Unverifieds with no payment info on file - Unverifieds with payment info on file - Unverifieds with payment info used If yes to (11a): 11b) Will these variations be selectable for landowners for land/parcel accessibility? If yes to (9a): 11c) Will content creators be able to differentiate, via LSL scripts? Reminder to LL: Unverifieds today are tipically looked down upon as being potential Griefers. The above variations would help in situtations where non-aged-verifieds have payment info on file and/or used. Edit: Wow, so many posts came in while creating mine. Bumped my Question # to 11 from 9. And added Colette to my "poking fun" comment.

Personally I am not going to pay to give my info to data miners. Thats the last thing I need is RL spam coming to my house for me, and my avatar. Or those eastern europeans where some regions economy is based on internet fraud stealing my info as is sure to happen. I am sure withen a few months of implementation LL will post "Oops us or our 3rd party kinda accidentally let your info out into the wide world, our bad. Sucks to be you people."
SO if there is place on the grid I cant go. Well I dont go to those places now

From: someone from blog - For example, our store sells avs, but they are not explicit or particularly violent in nature; however, if we wanted to block individuals who are not ID verified as adults (to weed out throw away accounts griefers use) during events…. without adding the stigma or to add a missleading flag on the land that it’s speciffically for adult content… it would be appreciated I'd like to be assured that this will not happen. People who don't get verified are not necessarily griefers or throw-away accounts. Let the "payment info used/provided" accomplish that. probably all asked before but not yet answered. #1 Will the 3rd party co. STORE our info? LL has said they will not sell or share our info, but they never said they won't store it! #2 How will this keep minors off the grid? How will it ensure members won't use their parents identity to verify? #3 How will this keep non-verifieds from camera-viewing through walls and viewing adult content?

Already had a thread with my own list, but I guess might as well repost . - The forums are restricted to verified (curently payment info on file and up) residents. What will the policy be after the switch to age verification? Will all the existing ones be grandfathered in or will people find their access revoked if they don't verify?
- I just noticed that there is a "Mature group" flag in the group window, indicating a move away from the current community standards stipulation that groups should confirm to PG. How will the "Adult" flag fit into this?
- What is the liability of an age verified resident providing adult content to a non-age verified (aka possibly a minor) one? There are several ways that could inadvertantly happen (through a notice in a 'mature' group, you don't have to be physically on the land to buy items, or through third-party sites like SLB or SLex)
- What happens to the "emergency" plan where the grid would be restricted to "payment info and up"? If payment info is no longer in use, or relevant will non-age verified residents find themselves cut off *if* it ever comes to that?
From: Meade Paravane They'll blog (and remember the blog headlines are displayed at the login screen) about it and probably do some number of Message of the Day thingies about it. People who refuse to read the news don't have the right to bitch about well-advertised "surprises", IMO. You might want to look at the key metrics and add up how many residents live in a country where English isn't the main language, or even spoken at all. Expecting those residents to fully understand and comprehend every aspect of a blog post is already a stretch, expecting them to understand even one phrase of a cryptic TOS is not realistic. There were a number of times a foreign resident would use Live Help and did not speak even one word of English. They didn't even understand me trying to refer them to someone who did speak their language. From: Musicteacher Rampal #1 Will the 3rd party co. STORE our info? LL has said they will not sell or share our info, but they never said they won't store it! That came up in the Tuesday meeting: [10:12] Daniel Linden: it’s vaulted to provided a government-required audit trail for two years, but neither Linden or Integrity can access that data unless an audit is initiated.

This still does not answer what the difference between adult and mature - example - vendor prims that show a frontal nude displaying a tattoo for sale - is it mature or adult. Does none sexual nudity fall under adult or not? I really need a more defined answer for this because it will impact my business greatly.

Our verification provider will only use information to provide a match code." So how will LL know if that same ID has been used more than once? It sure seems to me like some information WILL be stored.

>> What are the exact ID requirements for UK users? Background: Integrity Services' website boasts of full US and UK coverage, but so far only US users have been given solid information about what will be required of them (final x digits of SSN). UK users are still only being offered a vague idea ("oh, probably your passport or driving license" . Any chance of the exact primary information/documents required for UK users to pass an identity check please? Ta muchly. =)

What sort of notice will we be given that this system is going to be implemented?
What guarantees can you give us that this information won't be sold? Passing it off to a third party makes me highly suspicious.
Will you comepensate players who can't due to national laws provide this sort of sensitive information and therefore can't continue to run their business?
Why are you choosing a solution that means any kid who gets hold of their parents ID can verify themselves as an adult? Will you have checks and balances in place?

From: Trevor Langdon Meade, Colette, too funny, the OP asked for questions we want answered by LL and you couldn't resist answering for LL. Are you two Lindens I'm pretty sure Meade isn't LL. Dunno about Colette but would guess not. The OP could probably have avoided non-LL people answering by asking questions that haven't been answered already or ones that haven't been asked & speculated-about 100 times already. From: Kitty Barnett You might want to look at the key metrics and add up how many residents live in a country where English isn't the main language, or even spoken at all. That's an excellent point, Kitty! Aside from getting more translators for LL, what can be done about it, though? Should they never change any rules because some might not be able to read about them??

i want to know if it is commercialization?
05-11-2007 17:30
i postulate this is an attempt to "clean up" second life for the corporations who are buying islands and setting up virtual stores where people can purchase real world goods. ibm, sears, wells fargo, heck- home depot circuit city, walmart...you name it, corporations have begun to sign on and have a presence, and they wont stay linked to someplace with even a hint of child pornography...and perhaps not even "adult content"...LL seeing the almighty dollar is throwing free expression aside, destroying what the world was, and im afraid...it will become a virtual mall of america, where uptight conservative idiots can "shop in peace, un-hindered by the rabble who live in this place now". and they will make even more money...
moeny talks...what the world of second life was designed to be...walks...
i am in the us, and 43 this summer, and if they "require" my social security number, even part of it...no thank you...
and to give all this data to a company that is extremely connected to political action committee's and boasts of "helping companies comply with the so called patriot act"?...
what a lot of residents see as Linden Labs knee jerk reaction may actually be a total sell out.

One question, I have, inspired by a recent blog post.
If you flag a parcel as adult, how high will the ban box be for unverified accounts?
If you ban people from your land, normally the ban only goes up a few hundred meters - this is to allow aviators etc to fly unfettered without constantly crashing there vehicles into ban lines.
If the adult ban goes up indefinitely, it is going to annoy aviators etc. who will also have to age verify to fly unfettered.
If the ban only goes up a few hundred meters, then either it is going to be ineffective (given the number of adult themed skyboxes around), or else LL is going to have to limit all adult activities to below 200m!

Most people whove experinced peeping toms end up going High up into skyboxes.
