A language for describing access controls is good.

I'm abandoning my support for this proposal now though, for 3 reasons :

1) You can already do it with scripting, and it isn't even hard. If it was truly a brilliant idea, people would have done it already using scripts.

2) I've learned that some griefers typically register accounts a week in advance of raids... so it wouldn't help much against them.

3) Proactive Security has developed its own proposal for better access control of parcels, and in particular, permissions to reduce griefing. I won't talk about it here (that would make the thread go off topic). Just IM me if you want to see. We hope to post it in a few days, after it has been checked by various people and there has been time for a due process of feedback.

From a former unverified

Many of us unverified become verified once we realize all that this world of sl has to offer. When I first signed on, frankly, I didn't want to give my credit card info - even with the incentive of 250 lindens. Had no idea what that meant anyway. But after exploring rather freely for a day or two, talking with other newbies and with experience sl folks, I signed on and am very active in this community.

Blocking access sends a message of distrust and disinvitation. If I had been blocked, I would have been frustrated and probably distrustful - what don't they want me to see? I probably would not have gone on to become verified and a land owner. That's just one person's perspective, but I'm sure others feel uncomfortable about giving our their credit card information or PayPal account access without having a sense of comfort about the organization.

Well, if anyone's got any BETTER ideas for griefer control - and avoidance of things like, oh, nubby-mc-nub-nub "hey baby, I just joined this game, wanna be a hot momma and get laid?!?!" propositions - by all means....

....LET'S HEAR THEM!

'cause while some people want to be escorts in this game? I'm not one of them. :P
