Being new to the discussion, please forgive me if what I ask/suggest has already been banded about elsewhere?

My understanding is that the whole issue of camping is what is causing dwell incentive to go away? If that is the case, why not use a manner of diminishing returns, such that if an avatar has been on the same parcel for x period of time, they start generating 'negative' dwell (at least, for purposes of dwell incentive payout).

My guess is this would need to be set at a sufficiently high enough threshold not to cause problems with valid events, scenes, or roleplays (two to four hours?) but to reduce or eliminate the amount of funds generated from people who hop in a camping chair and go to work for the day or to sleep for the night.

If parcel-owners are losing money by paying out in dwell-chairs to campers but not reaping rewards from the dwell linden generated, then my guess is that they will take down or turn off those devices.

Please read this forum thread. Your suggestion proves exactly what I have been trying to say. Your 'understanding' is the blanket view over how you and many other residents are perceiving this issue. AGAIN, AND ONCE AGAIN, I REPEAT: Dwell should not be paid through created money! HOWEVER, IT SHOULD BE PAID!

... And sorry, NO ONE is going to pay a cover charge for any of these. I am certain they'd rather just find the same thing somewhere else for free. No one will simply be DYING to goto a SL event, therefore a cover charge is never going to work for a gathering place.

A cool enough event and place could stand a few linden as a cover charge. its only because the current system is based on people just showing up, and people are not paying to enjoy content themselves. They are essentially getting something for free. I'm all for having people pay from in hand lindens, that way you can actually control WHO gets the money, instead of whoever owns land you explore. This way you can explore areas people make free, and can still donate to the places you like without being there all the time you're online.

And I'm not sure how anyone can assert that LL is rolling in dough, as I haven't seen any accounting for them. People saying this without seeing publicly published numbers of revenue and profits are talking out of their back ends.

Considering how bandwidth heavy SL is, I'd be suprised if they are rolling in dough, it must cost a ton in bandwidth fees.

Its SL, the party can't be THAT GREAT...

Then your business model isn't viable. Find a new one. The people that don't run clubs shouldn't have to pay to prop up a club scene that can't support itself.

LL needs to continue to pay land owners, event planners, venue owners so we can continue to make SL entertaining... LL wants people logged on, playing, enjoying, continuing to use, continuing to invest, continuing to spend.

So not true. Why should LL Pay? They dont have to and I dont think they should. Its UP TO US what we do in here and how we do it, NOT LL.

Why not charge for your events? The option has been there since i have been in game, 2003. Money doesnt make SL go around ...

Hehe so true :) If you have to depend on your dwell to support your events, you are in the wrong business :)
