I am not really that smart on the physics and what things do to a server, but I was wondering if its possible to expand Linking range of objects beyond the 20-30m limit (I tried 30 once but it wouldnt link, said they were to far apart. And people tell me 30m is the limit).
If it doesnt kill the server to expand maybe an 20m or so onto that, it would help make some bigger builds all into one rather than section them off into smaller pieces. It would save on time and effort on realigning something if you accidently moved some pieces.
Am I alone on this idea? Am I maybe asking something taboo? Just curious why it hasnt beeen extended to such a range after seeing all the really big builds around SL. Especially now that there are no taxes on height, objects, etc.

Well, I think the reason they haven't done this is so that people can only make gigantic annoying things up to a certain size. If there was some way to turn down the link distance requirement so as to allow us to link very small things to normal sized things, that would be pretty good. Just a exemption to the rule for objects under a certain size. As Andrew said here: From: someone IF the distance between the center of masses of two objects is less than 32 meters
AND
IF the distance between the same center of masses is less than the sum of the lengths of the diagonals of the bounding boxes (plus 1 meter)
THEN
yes, you can link them. I want an extention to that, allowing us to link very small things to medium-sized things, when the linked set is below a certain size. It'd make vehicles much more interesting.

(And yes, this ties in to my bounding boxes feature request, as outlined here.)

I think this limit is primarily to keep people from attaching a 300m penis to their head or dropping a 100m cube on your event.

It's easy enough to get a linked object spanning an entire sim if you really want to. I'm not in favor of making it any easier, though, because moving around just a couple of 100m-wide objects quickly makes it clear just how small a sim is relative to them, and how annoying they can be for people trying to pass through the area.
