well here's an idea. attach ocean sims to places such as the east side of slate and south side of maroon. place a 16k landmass in the outer (in this example, the southeast corner). that leaves three-quarters of the sim oceanic and attached to existing waterways.
the landmass will be not wholly detached from the world, but somewhat isolated and virtually lag free. the lindens could grant the owner(s) double the prims and auction the landmass off for real money to help offset the cost of the sim. then the land will of course require monthly teir fees.
i could talk on and on (obviously); but i want to hear y'all opinions.
and i REALLY want a linden to reply to this thread.

Wave motion effect is turned on or off in the prefs as 'water ripple'. It's definitely 'relative', even within your own client. Go close to some low-lying land and watch how much terrain the rippling water covers and uncovers for a few cycles; then fly a hundred meters up and over to one side, and look at the same terrain -- much higher-amplitude wave action!

I'd love to, but I have a GeForce FX. :|

GeForce FX can handle that?? What do you mean? It's kind of a cool effect, but yes, relative, too bad, I'd love to be able to float on it though. In active worlds, their waves definately effect the avatar. If you are under water, you "float" and if you hover above the water, and a wave catches you, it changes your physics. pretty cool, not reletive
Love Ingie
