npc's, a new av system with better uv maps, more options of clothing - actual conforming 3d clothes would be nice :D

If you like the idea, VOTE for it:

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-255

The lindens DO monitor jira voting, but unless a proposal/bug get into the double-digits, it doesn't register with them as a desired feature, apparently.

they need to start from scratch and get it working in new prims and then retro-fit the new prims one-at-a-time, rather than all-at-once, as they've been doing.

Call the new prims "special sandboxes"

"Sims", not "prims", I believe.

The current land edit tools could use an upgrade.

I'd like to see some better rendering options like realistic shadows and reflections. They had dynamic reflections before but took it out and replaced it with a rather less-dynamic version. I'd also like to see some performance increases. I didn't buy a $549 graphics card to have SL's performance be limited by my CPU. :P

Even today's Really Low End cards are probably crippled by the current rendering in SL. SL 1.x supports laptops with programmable dual-port ram video.

But that's OK. SL 2.0 could have higher hardware requirements for graphics and those people who still have functional machines of that level (the laptop above), can still use the lower-end graphics with a loss of features. Not sure about the physics though. Someone told me that Havok 2+ uses video card hardware for its physics engine, so that would block the low-end from using a sim based on Havok 2+.

Which means they either block all low end people from everything, or emulate the Havok 2+ engine in software (slow and probably laggy and bug-prone) or separate the sims into SL 1.x and SL 2.0 and not let the people running clients on the low-end hardware into SL 2.0 sims at all.

Havok works on the server. All collisions and physical movements in the sim are calculated on the sim server and then transmitted to all clients. So the low-end video cards should not be excluded for that reason.

One thing noone has really addressed is that one of the bigger changes in the current system has been and probably still is the change from UDP (fast packets needing more protocol management to cover lost packets) to TCP/IP (packet delivery guaranteed but probably not so fast). This change over is probably a major reason why we have had so many comms glitches. It also highlights how a choice at SL conception time (UDP) may have affected subsequent reliability.

VOIP is quite viable now, so no reason why IP should not give similar service to SL!

The current land edit tools could use an upgrade.

An area where residents can and do fill the void. There are at least three commercial terraforming lsl solutions as well as some freebies.

The current land edit tools have a "flatten" command that operates over any sized area and has no real parallel in the llModifyLand () parameters. OTOH, llModifyLand () allows selection of 2x2 M (subject to overcoming a bug) control not necessarily grid aligned against the minimum aligned 4x4 M selections in the viewer's land edit tools.

llModifyLand () works on the sim server so probably won't get better (could use a 1 x 1 M shovel) whereas the residents can probably improve the current land edit tools.

Attach points!
06-12-2007 08:33
From: Saijanai Kuhn
This is a thread for people to post pie-in-the-sky wishes for Second LIfe. That is, stuff that almost certainly can't be implemented without a new language model, a new physics model, etc. It isn't for bug-fixes since [hopefully] a redesigned SL wouldn't have any of the current bugs (but WILL have its own, all-new, all-improved bug-list).

***Can't believe this isn't already in here girls...
MORE attach points... put on a hat/scarf & lose my hair? Put on gloves and my rings come off? Put on a tattoo and (AAAAHHHHHHHH....) my PANTIES/BRA come off?
I don't know how the guys feel about this - but I've been fighting with the 'not enough attach points' probelem since my 2nd day in SL.

Please Linden Labs... It's 2007 - we wear more than 1 earing in each ear, more than one necklace, and we should be able to keep our under clothes on if we want to wear a tattoo! A hat or scarf shouldn't rip off our hair, and changing the attach point means losing another item.
And please - the avi's aren't complete - there are accessories xcite, etc..., that remove other necessaries and vice versa.

The attachment point issue is already in the JIRA system if you want to vote on it.

The URL would have been nice. Of course, fixing the website so we can click on the URLs rather than copy paste, would probably make people 10x as likely to use them...

Ah - thankyou, and sorry. I did a search and received no hits. Please - where in jira? A link perhaps?

No idea. I didn't mention this issue in the first place.

Comes up searching for:
"Multiple attachments" (top hit)
"Attachments" (top hit)

I would love to know what VWR has to do with that, though.

For starters there are no appropriate categories in service, and attachments are mostly client-side anyway; the simulator only cares about raw values, but otherwise doesn't consider them to be there at all (since they don't affect physics etc.)

region cross without falling into the ground for 10 seconds. a decent road system. better building tools (mirror option would save soooooo much time, some kind of bone system would enable us to make great stuff). better physics (for vehicles or better cloth sim). shadows. custom av morphs (along with new av models with higher res and better face placement and better envelopes (the hip is a joke))

i have many more whishes, maybe i will return later, but i don´t really see the point on posting them here. LL doesnt care about it ;)

I don't think it is LL that doesn't care. They believe that their major customers don't care. Certainly there are plenty of existing LSL scripters who are quite resistant to the idea for one reason or another.

Bones and Physics:

Havok 2 baby, havok 2.....

Their still ripping their custom Havok 1 code out of the system. When it's done they'll drop Havok 2, or 3, or 4 in.

Which is why the call for SL 2.0 and not-necessarily-compatible sims, etc.

And bones work right now with an amazing amount of kludging:

And that would be what, a bunch of scripts that move and rotate every piece to a known location?

Actually, that's not what I did in that demo. I fudged a real joint hierarchy. What you describe wouldn't work right.

better privacy!!

I would also love to be able to choose to hide all or some of my groups from prying eyes - I have groups for my business - but why should I have to announce to the world where I play? ever heard of those weirdos who follow you around - why should we make it easier for them??

More Group Slots

Ability to hide certain or all groups in profile

More Picks (mine are full of my business stuff so I cannot put anything 'fun')

oh and how about Linden actually does something about complaints we make - I was verbally attacked and linden did nothing - went on for months, they still failed to act. eventually they send me a message saying we did something but wont say what please read our blotter which covers what happened this week not when you complained (I actually stopped paying for my account because of this.

and do something about the thieves out there - I made a complaint about items being copied, texture grabbed and/or screen capped and the person informed me 'I am a continent developer - Linden will NEVER do anything' and you know what - they didnt ... so if you want to commit SL crime - buy a sim and you can do what the hell you want

At that point, if the injury is sufficient, you go to a lawyer, I'm afraid. You have to have a LOT of documentation of the abuse before you can go that route, however, and you need to expect enough compensation to make a lawyer worthwhile.

how about an easeier way to make a sculpted prim? i followed all sorts of different guides, but ended up with a pathetic toothpick every time, no matter what.
