It would be kind of the reverse of Adobe style price gouging in Europe.
I thought everything was more expensive in the EU. I last remember paying like £200 for a packet of crisps and I had to empty my wallet to buy a tiny plascticine replica of the la Tour Eiffel in a poorly lit Metro station, in Montparnasse, at midnight.

Also, to the "I want gambling in SL" folks in the thread: If SL is the best place that you can find for internet wagering, you can't be very serious about it. ;)

Yes it's done through cards issued by non-US banks.

Thus a useless idea for the typical US resident.

But its cool, if LL thinks they can get by without payments from US CCs (from US banks) they should allow gambling for non-Americans.

However, this plan wouldn't harm the US folks, as the OP believes; it would merely even the playing field.

It wont hurt anyone, except through Inflation.

Thus it will be the Content creators, the landlords, and other businesses paying for the VAT.

Progressive reveal?

What the heck are you talking about?

You made a claim that US credit card companies are making payments to European gambling sites. This is illegal. Thus I do not believe you.

I suppose it would be possible a "US credit card company" who issues a credit card through a Non-US bank can make a payment to a gambling site. Thats not the same thing at all.

I did not say either of these things; I'm sure you want to respond to someone who did - please take the trouble to actually find someone with that point oif view, before you rebut them. Oherwise you might look a teeny bit like an idiot.

I don't even think there is an applicable concept of a "US Creit card comapny" (your words). I see Visa here, I see Visa there, Visa tell me they are everywhere and my card is honoured everywhere. If you want to change what you said, and talk about "cards issued by US banks", then that's different: but I wasn't responding to that, because you didn't say it.

Ok, I am saying it now then.

US Credit Cards Issued by US banks Issued to US Residents. Hows that?

US account holders make up the single largest demographic of paying customers by country of origin.

Those people will no longer be able to pay for second Life with their credit card if second life is classified as a gambling site.

So would the British and French renew their centuries old hatred? Or would they stay united against the Germans? Will the Swiss return as the mercenaries of Europe? (Funny I have never met a Swiss person in SL.) Will Sweden rampage thru Germany?

My point is that if Second Life becomes classified as a gambling site - People in the US will not be able to pay for Second Life, because their credit cards wont let them.

What the restriction is that there is a ban on the processing of the electronic transfer of funds through the US for the purposes of gambling. If the payments do not pass through the US at any stage then there is no problem.

Secondly ... gambling in SL is mostly "nickle & dime" stuff ... when it was within TOS most bets were for under say L$50 ... Here in the UK gambling is strictly regulated. In particular gambling is almost banned in pubs ... the only gambling permitted is for "small stakes". A simelar restriction in SL would be reasonable ... with a limit on stakes of say L$100. But this line of discussion is getting off thres ... read the title of the thread :D ...
