This is hashing an old topic... but WEEE here we go...
With all the events lately (has anyone else noticed this?), we need some opt-out abilities for the anouncements... heres my idea...
You have an option to Opt-Out of All anouncements... with the ability to select individual anouncements to be noticed of... this way, you can select the events you want to be notified of but yet not have to deal with constant announcement spam.
A user could go to the Events menu and click "Notify Me Of Only Events I Select" then they can click an event and click a "Notify Me" button and be told when the event happens.
How would this work for lindens? Well I have no idea how its set up linden side, but I hope theres a window where they can enter in the announcement, the system could naturaly filter out who wants to be notified of that event.
The default would be to notified of all events.

NO ONE wants to say anything about this? Jeez, you'd think more people would like this feature...

well, I endorse it insofar as it sounds useful. But from a personal standpoint,
(a) Second Life doesnt cater for us Europeans, so it's not like I could attend an event even if I wanted to. Guess it's a good job I don't want to, huh?
(b) I ignore any and all event notifications that do appear anyway. So I'd like a simple toggle to switch off all notifications except maybe the 'log out we're going down' type system messages.

Oz, good idea..
Events On by default.
Choices: Events On Events Off Events Chosen
this would only effect Event announcements. System announcements would be On regardless.

I hate pop ups, events or online notifications, errors, etc. Just put it all in chat and leave my UI alone.
I do agree that it should be a toggle though, some do like pop-ups (non-script writer types, like ironchef -- he's a social butterfly).

Or just get a handy dandy Personal Reminder Device... created by Pendari Lorentz, scripted by Oz Spade... Currently located in several stores around the world! lol.. sorry.. couldn't resist Oz Seriously though, I like the idea of being able to flag certain events that I do want to receive notification about.

I just think they need to revamp the entire event system, complete with this, and other features, like auto-annoucing.
Lindens would still have to look over everything, to make sure no one makes an event that says as it's annoucement "I'm a big fat smelly Linden!" or something, but.. *shrug*

Please... make the pain stop. 30+ events per day == lots of interruptions!

It's spam. I don't like spam. Opt-in, opt-out, whatever but I want to opt.

At least filtering would be nice. *rant mode=on* I don't ever want to hear another announcment for a casino opening or host free chat. And when i alt-tab out of full screen mode to have it start flashing in the start bar like the end of the world but no it's just an anouncment for some land auction closing in a sim i would only ever consider driving throw with the window rolled up and the hatch closed on my tank. *rant mode=off*

I would be in favor of filtering by types of events too. Like Strife mentioned, there are several "types" of events that I never want to hear about (and certainly don't want to hear about 30 times a day).
