nicholaz' viewer is the only thing that kept me from abandoning sl the past few months. LL owe that bloke A LOT.

Now that's a REEEALLY Useful contrbution to the debate!

The last Nicholaz viewer gave me a slightly improved performance over SL Standard one - so it's something worth us knowing about. Announcement forum or not, this is an announcement that is of interest to most of us.

Gosh, I've never heard of this viewer. Sounds promising (however the very latest patch is actually working decently).

So this "Nicholaz 18a viewer" is a third party version of SL similar to the Free Look Viewer?

It is a 3rd Part Viewer. it generally runs better than the normal viewer. I've been using it for a couple of months now and it is definitely better, how much depends on how well the Linden update works. According to his notes, 18a is a marginal improvement, mostly beneficial to systems with lower end graphics cards. (That's me). I find it loads quicker, crashes less, and is just a little less laggy.

I just saw this posted on Nicholaz's blog:

A fellow developer (Able Whitman, the guy who brought you the changed dialog to avoid the debit spoofing) started working on it and is now offering an experimental viewer which let's you visually mute prims or objects on parcels.

How cool is THAT? Death to ad farms! :D

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

THank you Nicholaz!

It is beyond shameful that it requires an outside force to fix the simplest bugs like borked particles and IM windows that keep changing sizes that LL REFUSES to touch even after 5 updates.

SHAME ON YOU LL!

Thanks Brenda and Ann. Might just try this viewer and have my husband try it too. He has a higher end computer with more memory and a better graphics card than mine, but seems to crash more often than I do. And we run regular maintenance on our PC's....virus scans, registry fixers, disk defrag and cleanup, etc. But when I checked out Nicholaz' viewer before there were like 8 different files under the download. I assumed I just download the one marked as "zipped", but wasn't sure. You guys (um, girls) are great!

I just tried this and it actually works (took some pictures but I don't know how to post them - duh!). Most disappear altogether, some still show as a faint phantom, and one I couldn't get rid of, but still, a great improvement in the view. Simple too, there's a new option in the right-click piechart called "visual mute" or something like that. Just click that and the ad poofs!

Do we just download the zip file?

Look into the zip, it comes with instructions! ;) It also has instructions for reporting bugs.

I'm impressed by this client. I've been using it for a week now.
