Apparently a male can carry a child to term, however it's the getting pregnant to begin with, and the getting un-pregnant at the end, that are the tricky parts. ^^ OBVirginity: Yeah yeah, I was 23, so sue me.  A male CANNOT carry a child to term. You need a uterus and a placenta for that. _____________________

A male CANNOT carry a child to term. You need a uterus and a placenta for that. Actually, I think a male *could* carry a child to term, if the fertilized egg was implanted. Extrauterine pregnancies (aka Ectopic pregnancy) happen and can take hold in the abdominal cavity. The survival rate is very low however.. around 5%. Anyway... just goes to show you don't *necessarily* need a uterus. |

Actually, Devlin, if you're talking about breast feeding, I saw a documentary once on a guy who really wanted to breast feed. His wife was down with it, so pretty much what they did was just train him to adjust mentally to the idea of it throughout the pregnancy, and then somehow when the baby was put to his chest he really did start breast feeding. So, part of it is really just about adjusting to the idea that it's possible--but I imagine most guys have never tried to breast feed their kid before, haha.

No, I wasn't talking about breast feeding. A fetus feeds through an umbilical cord. If you implant one in a mans abdominal cavity, how would it feed? And as far as a man breast feeding an infant. That is NOT the proper term. The baby may be suckling, but it is NOT receiving any nourishment since a man has no mammary glands. Might a s well give it a pacifier for the same effect. _____________________

How would it feed? The embryo could feed from any blood supply (i.e. your organs). Remember, an embryo is essentially a parasite, it will try to feed off of anything it can. It produces enzymes that allow it to 'tap' into any available source. The uterus is designed to handle this, while our organs are not.. thus, the low viablility of this type of pregnancy. |

A zygote will apparently implant successfully in the abdominal wall, and develop normally from there, placenta, umbilical cord, and all. Weird stuff, huh? And males can lactate, yaknow. Entry in Wikipedia Biologically, we all start off with the same structure and through maturation develop our physical differences, but some things still remain, such as the breasts. |
