I think cash-money would be a bigger incentive to log in...

I think cash-money would be a bigger incentive to log in... Maybe like some inworld games, the pot would grow with the # of people inworld! But wait, that's gambling. ![]() ~represses gambling urges~ _____________________

What the heck is a Widgizmo? If I were to bet, I'd say it has something to do with this: Ben Linden: ok, I need a name for some in world swag that is not yet made, so I don't know what it is -Adam _____________________

It's from 6pm-7pm EDT (Eastern Dinner Time) for me, so I won't be there. I'm sure they'll give away Widgizmo's a few days later to anyone who wants one.

Hey! They do listen!
09-13-2005 02:51
There's a hell of a lot of grumble in some of the forums about Linden Labs not listening, but no-one mentions the times they do. So with that in mind:
During the last log-a-thon the times were announced as both "between 7pm and 9pm PDT" and "between 7pm and 9pm PST", which not only caused confusion for some Americans, but even more so for the rest of the world who are not always up to date on PST & PDT etc. As it turns out, I had to get up at 4am local time to log in. Now..... times are advertised using game-time, which is always displayed on the top of my screen, and the time chosen makes it a lot easier for non-American players to get a piece of the action as well. Thank-you for listening, Linden Labs. |

Game time IS pacific standard time. They haven't really done anything different. I now know that SLT=PST except when its PDT ![]() So, yeah, maybe they didn't do anything really big - but they did do what was requested, which IMO is cool enough. And big, big apologies for violating rules 1, 2 and 7 ![]() |

Ben, a more modern definition would be UTC-8 subject to arcane rules lobbied for by the summer recrational goods manufacturers subject to change at whim of Congress.
Using slightly older terminology, SLT is GMT-8 for most values of GMT, modulo variances in WET. Hope that reduces your confusion ![]() _____________________

You forgot one rule: 8. If you are not from the US do not expect any consideration when it comes to LL-run events. You are welcome to pay your monthly fee, but otherwise shut up. Quite disgusted, Till Stirling _____________________

*grumbles under his breath* Not quite, 3pm to 4pm PST is midnight to 1 am! Admittedly that is better than 7pm tp 9pm, But on a sunday ...! Sorry!
I may be able to be there, as I usually only sleep 5 to 6 hours, but many others will not be able to login! And I am talking not only about europeans now! SecondLife has customers around the world (or should I say donators?) Till Stirling _____________________

You forgot one rule: 9. If you are not from the US you should expect a US-based company of around fifty people to go back to work at 3:00 AM to hold events for your personal convenience. Just kidding of course, but there isn't much they can realistically do. I've played games based in Europe and realized the only times I can play are the dead of night where the game is based, meaning few people on, not much going on. It's just a fact of living on a rotating sphere. |

Aren't the alien monoliths supposed to compress Jupiter into a second star soon? That should help quite a bit. Got five years to wait yet buddy. _____________________

I *think* most of the residents of SL are in the USA, thats why I included SF and NYC, since it is on both coasts. And, I *think* the majority of the rest of the world SL residents live in the UK and Australia, so thats why London and Sydney are included. But take a look at the time chart and decide when you would have set up the logathon, 3p - 4p SLT seems reasonable to me.
