Join us on Sunday, September 18 to help make Second Life History by joining us to reach 4500 concurrent Residents in-world!! Help us improve your Second Life experience by remaining in-world between 3pm and 4pm SLT (Second Life Time) on Sunday, September 18, 2005. Any Resident who remains in-world for at least 30 minutes during this time will receive a Widgizmo (the 30 minutes can be non-contiguous). You do not need to re-log to qualify. The Widgizmos will be given out on Monday afternoon (9/19) beginning at 4pm SLT.
On July 31st, during the Log-A-Thon 5000, we reached a maximum user concurrency count of 3800 Residents! As a comparison, the average max concurrency on a normal day was approximately 2200 Residents then, whereas this month, it is now up to 2800 Residents. By reducing the Log-A-Thon window from two hours to one, we are confident we will reach the goal of 4500 concurrently logged-in Residents!
In an effort to demonstrate, characterize, and improve the performance of our systems to handle the ever-increasing number of Residents, Log-A-Thons will help us determine the true capabilities of Second Life. This type of test is the best way for us to determine how much stress our current systems can handle, and, if in the case of a glitch, how and what parts of our system are weak. So, keep in mind that there may be some unexpected performance issues during this event and you can expect these changes to revert back to its original state when the event concludes.
We hope to see you on September 18th and we thank you in advance for your participation and for your continued support of Second Life!
Cheers,
Linden Lab
