.... is the general feeling I'm getting from the mob-mentality on these boards.
Which personally, I don't think is fair.
Postulations of inadequecy.
Conjecture and hyperbole.
As if each one of us is capable of building an SL far suprerior to the one we're now beginning to take for granted.
Even as I type this I know I'm being foolish -- asking people to be rational and think before they speak is like asking birds to stop flying.
People soar on their own egos and poop on everything that is beneath them.
We all do it at some point or another and is a difficult human characteristic to control. However, we have been far too lenient with ourselves lately I think.
I've seen so many posts bashing LL for being incompetent, for conspiring, and many other rediculous things. There are many posts criticizing the character and integrity of individual employees of LL. People excuse themselves since they're paying customers... I hardly find that a convincing argument -- just suppose you give me money for something I provide you doesn't give you license to be as big a jerk to me as you want.
Now I understand that for some people, a lot of bugs affect their systems and ability to enjoy SL. I understand not everyone is a computer prodigy...
but does LL deserve the condescending posts they get lately?
I for one don't think so...
LL has met this community with an awe-inspiring level of humility. One that I am still trying to discipline myself for to this day. No matter what people say about them and despite any "suggestions" they get... whatever the criticism.. they've been nothing but amiable and dedicated to SL and us...
then we poop on them.
So I am asking each and every one of us to be more humble. Let's all learn how to file bug reports properly, let's learn how to forgive mistakes and move on, and above all, let's appreciate SL for what it is.
Because there's nothing out there like it right now and so we are lucky to be a part of it.

Well, I will say that SecondLife is certainly worth all the frustration we're going through.

From: Icon Serpentine It's inevitable to be frustrated sometimes, but it's easy to not be frustrated all of the time. I'm in a period of frustration right now over the lack of answers to the gamma levels issue, and it's beginning to highly annoy me, but it doesn't change my appreciation for the system over all, or those that bring it to us. There is nothing even close to SL on the market, and even if one sprung up and launched tomorrow, it wouldn't hold the same value to me that SL and my time here does. The environment, the opportunity and innovation, the residents, and even the Lindens themselves are what make SL what it is, and that's not something that can be duplicated. I remain very appreciative that I have this outlet, even when I'm ranting on an issue.

Oh no, Linden Labs employees are great. So wonderful. Yeah. They're so good... ... FOR ME TO POOP ON!!! We seriously have to trust them to do their job and build a world for us, while realizing the world has to make money and isn't built for ME. If they ever seem to favor one group over another, they're just balancing things. Build a new feature instead of fixing a bug? That's called attracting new customers or keeping up with competition. They don't get it perfect every time, and it can get very frustrating. But they've got families to feed and we just have to trust them to make good judgments so they can sustain the SL model and keep feeding them.

Great thread. I had to remind myself last night after freezing up in game a couple of times, "I am free to leave at anytime!". No one is making me log on to SL each night. If I don't like the way LL is handling things, I am free to leave. That is my new mantra. And it makes me realize that I don't want to leave this wonderful place!

I'm amazed SL runs at all, given the number of things that go wrong in this world. Life can sure hurt, but that doesn't stop someone who wants the most out of it from pressing on. I suppose that previous sentence could say "Second Life" as well.

That's applicible to the real world two, in my opinion It was kind of depressing last night to open the message boards and have them full of "SL is broken! Dwell is broken!". As frustrating as malfunctions are, I doubt they reflect any laziness or lack of caring on the Lindens behalf. If anything, they were probably scrambling to get things fixed. And the feedback they get for their extra work? A bunch of irate messages! Sometimes I think my generation (or a portion of it) is spoiled. There's a wierd sense of entitlement. Whining. Demanding. The assumption that if one doesn't get their way imediatly that a grave crime of humanity has occured. It's normal to be dissapointed when you pay for something and it doesn't work, and it's reasonable to ask for a repair. But the vibe I sometimes read is something like " You're ripping me off on purpose! You're not taking your job seriously! You're doing this to me personally because you're mean and don't understand I come before everyone else! Jerk!"*sigh*

Reply to post at the beginning of this thread, not having read the rest of the thread:
I felt the same as you did, somewhat. Then I fought with nonstop crashes for a week and couldn't get any customer support on the problem at all. I'm talking about crashing 5 seconds after I get into the game, repeatedly... It's easy to sit back and judge those who are blowing off their steam when you apparently aren't having the game stopping issues that some are.
None of us can make a better game, you're right, but that's why we're the paying customers, not the LL employees. I'll tell you who can make a more stable game... SOE, Maxis, or any other game I've played basically. SL is unique, and by God if it wasn't (if it were just another mmorpg and there were 50 others like it out there), I'd have been gone about a week ago.
While I'm not one to come and harp on every little thing... piss and moan to everyone in a new thread for every problem I have with SL, I certainly won't defend LL over it when others do. I think any raging and uproaring they get is only to be expected. SL is broken to hell right now. If I'm not crashing I'm spending 10 more minutes getting that prim just right because local axis is bugged for objects with more than 1 prim, or struggling to position that tiny prim edge just right when the camera jolts inward and everytime I zoom in and click the arrow. If it's not that it's another one of the many, MANY bugs and instabilities (if that's a word?) in this broken game.
If you're actively building in SL... if you're really trying to use SL to it's full extent, you'd understand better what people are angry about. It doesn't ask much of SL to sit around and chat, like many (if not most) residents do. If that's all I wanted to do, I'd be all set, minus the frequent crashes, logouts, body and clothing textures not loading, etc. I don't know what you spend your time in SL doing, but I certainly can't see how you could be facing as many bugs as are existant right now and still be able to make any threads in praise and defense of LL. So what have you done (or TRIED to do) in SL lately?
And another thing.... that awe inspiring level of humanity from LL is nothing more than a smile and polite response they give you right before brushing you off or ignoring you when you can't even get into and stay in the game for more than 5 seconds. If they came at even one of us and attacked us for complaining, they lose not only the attacked customer but several more (atleast) right behind them. They're making money out the ass. You think they're polite to you just because they're polite people or they like you? puhhhlease. They're polite to you as much as they can be because they're getting paid to be. The ones you're talking to are polite to you and trying to keep you calm and patient while their programming coworkers continue to screw things up more and more..... the ones you're talking to are likely embarrassed and frustrated about having to answer to the gripes and complaints about problems they personally didn't create. They are polite because if nothing else, the least they can do is keep up with PR. For me, PR isn't enough.
Sorry for rambling, but I'm just another disgruntled customer.... moreso each day lately.

It's like clockwork now: Linden Lab releases a patch There are some glitches People complain More people complain without having the decency of taking a look at posts already listed (Help! I can't log in... or read any other posts about not being able to log in!) Linden Lab fixes the glitches Someone posts a "Hey, give LL a break" post Folks agree Naysayers disappear into obscurity rinse, wash, repeat. heh. it's a little amusing. I'm glad the forum is a well-oiled machine that has this kind of (needed) automated response. So, here's my obligatory response to the original poster of this thread: Indeed!
