Would someone please answer a question? With the gross amount of flat land we already have, why would you take a mountain and make it flat?? Especially seeing as how we can’t make it a mountain again.
Please, please, PLEASE, if you want to build on flat land, find flat land. Don’t take a mountain and make it flat. I am just at a total loss why people can’t build within the constraints of the existing land. I can understand digging a hole for your basement or “secret” lab, or even lowering a small knoll so it doesn’t stick through your floor, but to totally demolish a mountain that can never be replaced is absurd.

I agree wholeheartedly, Tracey. Makes me crazy when somebody flattens a beautiful mountain that can't be restored. Part of the reason I bought my land on Mocha is to preserve the huge beautiful mountains on it.

unfortunetly, Candie, the architecture on the land is another matter...
Anywho, I totaly agree. Care for the land people, it's not your personal funhouse, we all share this land.

what u mean can't be restored? I can lower or heighten any piece of land easily, as long as there is enough public land available to allow it. Tell me where you want a mpuntain again and given there is enough public land near it to claim I'm certain I can do it. Or if u want a mountain where someone simply made flattened a mountain and is now their land, tell me where, it will take time but I can do it, and I dont need any money for it since I'm not greedy that way.

Neo, you can lower it as much as you want but you can't raise it over 45 degrees. Yes, IF there's enough public land around it, but really, how many times are there?

well maybe this has changed, cause when i began in january i bought up some land and made a pretty high mountain. I havent done much mountain making but plenty of idland making, and it is a long and pain process but it can be done. Why would they change the way you can make the height of land?

Because people complained during beta, and got what they asked for, which is a 45-degree slope limit when raising land.

how about a mountainous region? I don't mean gibson either, all that looks like to me is cliffs. I actually had my first dream about second life last night. I dreamed they introduced snow into the game and I was the first to start a building, it was pretty cool looking too. Had some snow covered trees and all but the snow fall part was left out, which was no big deal cause the snow looked deep enough. How about a region that allows people to make mountains and keep all the people that don't like mountains or the ability to make them out. Doesen't seem fair to be limited to making the land the way you want. I don't mean having some way to keep non mountain makers out, cause that's not possible, unless the region could have esp and read users minds, not likely. Be nice to see it.

I think some land texture controls that are pre set in the system you can change (making the land look grassy, snowy, etc) would REALLY help with this. You could have the edges blend with the texture in the next plot of land too so it would look better.
A lot of the terraforming I do is to put grass down for parks and level it for paths.

It seems that, while you can't *raise* a steeper-than-45-degree mountain, you can lower one. The station hill in Gray was made more or less like this: make big hill (bigger than your final mountain) and then lower steeply along your "cliff" edges. The Gray hill has a near-vertical cliff above the marina.
Unfortunately this all requires a large area, to raise the initial hill you'll be carving ...

It would be great if we could tunnel into the mountains, too. Then I could use my Dwarf AV lol! From: someone Originally posted by Neo Valen how about a mountainous region? And I'm thinking the same logic could be implemented to allow underwater structures that aren't full of water. Would be nice to have one or two "ocean floor" sims, with all underwater structures. Yes, I realize you can't drown. I just think it would look better if the structures weren't filled with water.

Yes, I realize you can't drown. I just think it would look better if the structures weren't filled with water. That would be cool, but I was recently reminded of how you can be in a room underwater and not even notice the water. I think a "sealab"-type structure could probably have a phantom "pool surface" in its entrance pod that would create the illusion that you had entered an air-filled compartment.

I can tell when I'm underwater. Everything has a bluish foggy look to it.
