I don't know about you, but I determine this simply by originality and new ideas. All of the games you had mentioned are indeed sequels again, nothing new here. Only a different way of playing an old idea.

yeah, but paratrooper units in Civ II were cool!

I agree totally. The Civilization series was definately good. Rise of Nations was an offshoot to real time, which I was definately looking for. It just lacks developer support :).

One superfunny thing about Rise of Nations is how all the cultures start out uniquely with their own looks and distinct variances, and as you advance in technology everyone eventually ends up looking the same. :)

I'm not terribly knowledgeable on this, but there was a time RPG games were a puny part of the North American market yet a HUGE aspect of Japanese gaming. Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior over here) was simply epic, and Final Fantasy had just not shone its light yet. Anyone with more background of what happened during that era (late 80s phasing into early 90s I think) care to share?

Dunno about RPGs, but I think KOEI wargaming series like Romance of the Three Kingdoms and such were much more popular over there compared to here back then. I credit them for that entire genre of games, too. KOEI in that age was the best gaming company around, I don't care what anyone says. :p

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

Dude, Koei practically taught me everything I know about the Revolutionary War and the airline industry (Liberty or Death and Aerobiz on the SNES). Great games. :)

lol!

I've only played Liberty or Death out of those two. It's neat but the RTK series really just can't be beat. (Heh, they're up to something like RTK 9 or 10 or something now...lol.. talk about sequels..)

They are on 10, I just got it. It's the first one i've played and I love it :D

So all sequels aren't bad...

[edit]Oops, I forgot this thread was about pc gaming... and RTK 10 is console.

Ah I do have an example though, i'm enjoying Dungeon Seige 2 a lot more than I did Dungeon Seige 1. More emphasis on individual character advancement rather than getting a big party of whatever right away, better combat and skill systems, and much better quest system. Plus it's fun :)

There is a 10??? Is it in English too/yet?

Sometimes they can be a little worse than the one before, heck I still like RTK II as an all time favorite. But the general trend is to get better. Maybe VII is my 2nd favorite.... I missed a few here and there though, mostly the newer ones 8 and up. And 6 was never done in English. Grrr. But the original was THE best of it's time easily.... such a different type of game for it's time, and so addictive. If it wasn't for the general slowness of the interface that annoys me with it, it'd be one of my favorites still.

Well most of the old RTK games were console too, I just went off topic a little. :) But I think someone else did first...

Bleh who cares. RTK pwns all wargames, especially because of the history behind it.

Yep, it's all in english. I was happy to find it, previously all that was at my EB Games was VII.
