I'm trying to watch a live event from the homepage video stream, because the sim is full.
The quality of video on the homepage is, honestly, terrible. Unwatchable. Is this what SLTV will be like? 320x240 blurry crap at 448 kbps with sound glitching and dropping out all over the place? Unreadable text? 10 second (or more) lag between realtime and video? Having to watch the "cameraman" reboot his system when his client crashes? Watching him use third party tools because you provide *NO* client tools for video production or broadcasting?
Sad. Sad. Sad.
I was reassured by a Linden that the stream quality would be better by this week. It isn't.
Lindens, is this making SL look good? Do you expect anyone to work producing 4 hours of content per day when it's going to be ruined like this?
Do you expect anyone to watch it?
If this is all we can expect, you're wasting everyone's time.
And while I'm complaining about the quality of the video, can I ask why the video is being streamed in the MMS:// protocol? This is a proprietary Billsoft protocol that isn't compatible with Quicktime. So, the video can't be displayed inworld on a prim. How useful.

From: paulie Femto ..... can I ask why the video is being streamed in the MMS:// protocol? This is a proprietary Billsoft protocol that isn't compatible with Quicktime. So, the video can't be displayed inworld on a prim. How useful. Is that why I can't get it to work at all on my Mac, with any player? Seems madness to force us all to use one protocol on prims, then another on the webpage. Still, maybe its not that crazy. Just means WE are NOT the target audience for the web page.

I'll cross-post from the thread that SP pointed to, for those who dont want to dive into that thread:
Lucca Kitty says: "We at SLBC fully agree with you and we're trying our best to make that (Quicktime compatible streams) a reality, but unfortunately, the server the Lindens handed us only handles Windows Media Encoder streams. We're working on a solution to get the SLTV into SL rather than JUST the webpage..."
So, what that means is that we will use QT inworld, but WMP for SLTV. SLTV will *not* be viewable from within SL! Guess what? LL wants SLTV as an ADVERTISING TOOL to draw new customers into SL!
It's not SLTV at all. It's "help us attract more customers" tv. It's a promotional gimmick. And they want the users (who cant even watch the shows inworld) to work REAL HARD to make this happen. Sad.

Has anyone noticed that it's taking a lot more bandwidth to stream a video of SL than to stream SL itself? I'd say SL needs to be made into a browser plugin
