On Jeska's recommendation I am restarting the Ratings Interpretation thread. The last one was great fun but I think this it would be useful to hear other people's thoughts on the subject  . Here is a repost of mine: Average User Beha: 85 -1 Appe: 60 -1 Build: 67 -1 Given: 256 0 This looks like the average Scenario. Most likely a nice person who got tripple neg rated by a new user. Neg Rate Victim Beha: 102 -7 Appe: 70 -6 Build: 87 -6 Given: 134 -1 We instantly notice that this user has a lot of neg ratings. BUT They have a lot of pos rates and it looks like they mostly GIVE pos rates. Also notice that the neg rating in each category is about the same (6). I would keep an eye on this user, but if I were to take a guess I would say that this is a nice person who became victim of a gang "tripple neg rate" attack. Possible Troublemaker Beha: 26 -8 Appe: 14 -2 Build: 15 -4 Given: 32 -6 A lot of neg ratings, especially compared to their pos rating. Each category of neg rating is different (mostly behavior). This suggests that this user was not simply the victim of a "tripple neg rate" attack. Rather, the neg-raters put thought into the ratings. Be wary of this person. Please love me Beha: 220 -1 Appe: 129 -0 Build: 99 -0 Given: 860 -0 This person has given out a LOT of pos ratings. They may be using the rating system to help win friends. Possibly an insecure individual. Armed and dangerous Beha: 87 -6 Appe: 76 -4 Build: 66 -3 Given: 54 -64 This person uses neg ratings as a weapon. If you disagree with them, you will be next. I will normally say a few polite words to this type of person then be on my way. |

Great post Amiee. I have to say though that this is only an average SL'er if you are an "oldie." I think in interperting the ratings one simply *must* take into account the big difference "before the change" and "after the change." The nicest sweetest person in the world, in the post change period would never have numbers like that. And it is much harder to interpret the newer ones. An actual set from a very nice person who is about three months old: Beha: 3 -2 Appe: 2 -2 Build: 0 -1 Given: 17 0 Hardly reflective of them, and very difficult to interpret.  |

Oh no, you didn't post that this was your opinion, so I will take offense!  EDIT: Ok, thoughts count as opinions...I guess, I'll drop it  But I really agree with others that this is a good generalization, but there are some exceptions to the rule, so to speak. I guess I'll go there and talk about the "Please Love Me". I looked at my profile for the first time in months and saw I had a whopping 800 pos given. Wow! In my newb days I usually rated someone when they rate me first, I guess to be nice and return the favor (I guess hanging out at clubs helped with the high numbers), didn't really think of it as trying to make friends out of the whole thing. But for currency, that was a whole different story! Today though, I guess it's the same thing, I don't rate someone unless they rate me first. The other day someone rated me for appearance (because I'm just sooo darn cute), and I rated back pos on behavior ("awww thank you, you are so nice!" . And that's how it goes for me right now.

I am really trying to aim for a goal like Darko's previous one before the "ratings decay" but I'm failing at it. Ideally, what I hope to do is "flip the poles" on my ratings. I guess it does go to show the power of rippleshock... so along these rails I continue to ride.

Generally neg rates means that you're either a griefer or you don't fly under the radar.

I'm not sure I agree with the please love me one. I give out far more than I receive, usually to customers in my store who are a pleasure to chat and do business with. They often tend to be newer users who can't afford to rate in return, which is fine. I don't expect one and that's not why I rate. For every ten ratings I give I get maybe one in return. That's just the way it is now.

I don't really rate anymore. If someone rates me positively, I usually rate them back on Behavior as a "thanks."
I do not neg people. It's a waste of money.

I generally dont negrate. Then again, I generally dont posrate. Sometimes I'll make an exception for someone especially deserving, but in general the whole rating system is broken, so I dont bother.
However, hugs are free and generally appreciated, so those I'll share happily.

Chip, perhaps my description of the "please love me" profile was a bit too theatrical Someone with an exceptionally large number of Pos ratings given stands a good chance of beeing a very nice, cooperative, and social person. However, while the "armed and dangerous" character is likely to neg rate you for no reason, the "please love me" type may pos rate you for no reason. I wanted to illustrate a certain lack of balance but I really should have come up with a better name for that kind of person. The kind of person who hands out ratings to just anybody... SLUTKIDDING!!!!! sorry. I'm in a giddy mood. How about this: Social Rater |
