it seems a good, comprehensive solution.

I am baffled as to why this topic is hardly being discussed.

I read your post in the other forum Schwan. I agree. If LL choses only to "incubate" a select few, alot of people are going to feel turned off. Nice concept though... maybe needs a little tweaking.

I understand what LL is trying to achieve with this, but feel like an idiot. I actually bought land and pay tier. Silly me.
If I would have just waited a few weeks I may have got it for free, and actually had a chance to have LL pay me $L.
I am really trying to bite my tongue on this matter until I hear more, but atm I am pretty pissed off.

Schwan... I think I can see what their intentions are.

Right now, you either make the huge jump to owning an island and try to make all that money back if you can. Or you can take them up on the current development plan that Neverland is using, free island lands for a short time with no profiting allowed.

But what happens after the short time is over? There's no means by which a successful build can extend it's life. Neverland will be no more unless the people involved buy the land with the same large start-up fee and somehow start turning a profit from it.

The proposed system is to get you the land right away with no upfront costs, allow you to make money there from the start, and have you pay them back as you go. The upshot is that if the project is successful, by the time you have paid them back you ARE turning a profit. If the project fails, I don't know what will happen.

It also looks like they will have Linden judged special awards among those who take part in the program that would go to help paying off the loans early. What those awards are to be and how significant they are will go a long way towards making this program viable.

As always, the cost out of my pocket is my biggest concern. I want to make things that entertain the other residents of SL, but I'll be darned if I'm going to pay hundreds of US dollars every month to do so. I want to see details of the proposal. :)

It is probably most constructive to talk about this in the original thread, so that important points are not lost. This is definitely something that should not be implemented without a lot of public input, if at all.

Tiger,
I agree with you whole heartedly.
But what about those who have already made that considerable investment because they were denied the same opportunity?
LL will now help foster their direct competitors. Some of us decided to move forward and make that investment, and take the financial hits associated with a start up venture.
Now they are offering the same start up for free.
My concerns are for those who have made that investment and for those who where counting on the dwell based DI award for financial support.
At the very least LL should consider running this concurrent with the dwell based award at least for several months, until those that depend on them can make alternate arrangements.

Our 2 cents

First let me say I am speaking on behalf of Fey & myself as the founding members of Spellbound...

There are so many "veins" to this whole conversation. We will try to speak from experience and hope that we can add some additional intelligent thoughts to everyones already wonderful ideas and discussion.

The idea of mounting large scale projects is a totally frightening one. What sounds like a great idea when you look at your partner and say, "I've been thinking..." takes on a whole new view when faced with 3 empty sims and a deadline. To do this you must be able to depend on the time and talents of so many; people that you know you can rely on and will be with you to a projects' completion.

We have been fortunate in this respect. With our large Spellbound endeavors we made a decision to do them for the public interest. "Oz" was our first very large venture; there was no outside support & we did it totally to entertain the residents of SL.

Now of course we have mounted something much grander. It has been an amazing experience. Once again, everything is provided for free, which was a conscious decision made before we began construction. Based on early previews alone, people are spending 2-3 hours or more on an initial visit . This, plus the fact that we are giving out 20-30 avs or costumes per person, the chance to take part in many games and interactive experiences, and a host of other "Freebies" raises the question of the feasibility of great financial gain from undertakings such as these. BUT, will citizens be willing to pay great sums of money for these experiences? This is certainly an unknown, something to be explored.

On the other hand, there has not been a way for "companies" such as Spellbound to make dwell or incentive money off our regular business. We sponsor events for others, charge a fee, but do not receive the dwell dollars, or the possbile incentive that may come as a result. So that part of the Linden pan, (changge in incentives) sounds a breath of fresh air.

So what to do... Between a rock and a hard place. We have made a choice that we are thrilled that we can gather up immense talent to join us in these wonderful ideas and watch them come to life. Our creative engineers of all types have put aside so much else, both in RL & SL to see Neverland blossom. They all did it with the best of intentions; this is what you must consider before even beginning to formulate really large scale ideas.

The Lindens seem to be trying to strike a balance to help those who wish to do a large project but want to be able to profit from it. We are sure that the idea needs tweaking, but it certainly sounds like a good one.

We hope that more groups join with Spellbound, Bedazzle, SimCast & others in mounting wonderful imaginative large scale ideas whether for profit or not... Its the ideas that must live to expand our world...

We hope to see you all in Neverland... With best regards, Baccara & Fey
