wow that's expensive for a one and a half day conference if you can't sign up right away.

It covers a lot, and space is limited to about 160 people. Most conventions don't include a full party at a downtown Manhattan location or free Linden bling necklaces either. ;-)

Haha, I love the NYC MTA-style theme you chose for the site. Bravo! :D

Furthermore, as Second Life goes to the Metaverse, and this becomes an open platform, Linden Lab risks lawsuit in court and [attachment culling] will, I repeat WILL be reverse in court.

True....
but considering most will have to find accommodations, etc. (like me), I think it costs way too much.
Next time maybe a location that's cheaper with lower prices for accommodations and room for more than a select few of 160?

and *rolls eyes* wow! bling...

Yes, OPEN BAR. All you can drink for free. This includes top-shelf, but NOT premium. So, draft beers of all kinds, Absolut Vodka, Jack Daniels are all in, for example. Gray Goose and single malt scotches are not.

The party is from 7-10pm Saturday the 8th, giving everyone plenty of time to sleep / recover before the convention on Sunday. How many chances are you going to have in life to share some Bass Ale with Philip, Robin, Cory, Pathfinder, Jeska, Bub and the crew? :-)

I'd come, but with an Open Bar, I'd seriously never make it out of the party area without falling over. I would have to crash there!! :p

Pour moi, have to skip till next time I'm afraid -- although I can get time off in october (november is ratings) - I got too much other things that need attention in RL to easily fill that solitary last week of vacation time for the year..

.. also expense.. Unless I was heading to NY for other things as well (such as dropping off resume tapes - going to interviews) - can't justify it.

Sigg.

well, i'm registered.. now i just have to see who else i can get to come with me.. might have to get some people to join SL in the process ;)

also, the text field for registration identity is quite clever.

but, if possible, we need screenshots (preferrably upper body/head shots) of each SLer that will be attending, as well as LL. or a pic of their real self if possible (if registering under their RL name) ?

if not, i'll need to know soon.. i'll have to redesign.

awesome site though! :)

Flipper.. i have an idea for an after-party if the 7 - 10 actually ends around 10.

there's a (pretty groovy) band i saw not long ago at a bar somewhat local to me.. and they'll be playing in the city the same night at a club you may have heard of, Albion.

..open till 4 - 4.30-ish for those who decide sleep can wait till the following night. lol..

Personally I think that $150.00 for a 2-day convention is VERY VERY cheep. I attend 4-5 conventions a year for my RL job and none are less than $250.00 and the next one I have in October cost $550.00. What do ya want... to pay $50.00 for a really shitty convention or spend a very reasonable $150.00 for what looks to be a really fun time.

Most of the conventions I attend are at $200.00 a night hotels too which are very nice but by the time I spend 3 nights, pay for the convention, food and travel I am out a cool $1,500.00 or so. If the convention is good it is worth it though... lol... and they must be because I keep going to em... hehe

Wish I could go but I have timing conflicts.

not to mention..

if you order before Sept. 20th, then it's merely $95.00 as compared to the $150.

hence the reason i've registered already. and why i'm going to try to get as many people i know to commit early, so they can save $55 as well.

Organizers and Lindens have been been on overdrive to put this out.

I'm very happy with what we have to offer. We have some exciting speakers, and the opportunity to network with Lindens, industry people, and notable residents in Second Life is something that is a rare opportunity. Being a part of the very first instance of a starting tradition is even more exciting!

I predict some major collaborations and ideas coming out of this convention! Be there! Be a part of history!

I concur, not as an organizer, but as someone with over 5 1/2 of professional event coordination experience. They are not cheap even if you have corporate backing there are so many expenses tied into pulling off a large scale event.
