If this was all resolved privately there was no reason to make a new post to draw attention to the fact it was resolved except to garner attention. I am sadly by even posting on this thread I am feeding into this petty bullshit. As has been stated a couple of times in this thread, the forums are our platform for discussion as well as our community newspaper. Yes, every paper has an editorial page, and in that sense the discussion forums allow us to comment, editorialize and bitch. Linden Lab gives us that platform. The discussion forums are not an entitlement, they are not a necessary part of providing the service and content for SL. I also think the forums are a window on our SL world. When we tear one another apart in a hostile feeding frenzy we harm the ENTIRE SL COMMUNITY. So, I disagree that the resolution of a public debate that became overly heated on the forums is a private matter. The angst, the insults, the bad feelings affect every member who reads those posts in some way, and when the participants make the effort to mend fences they mend the community wounds as well. That mending should be as public as was the dispute. I hear all the time in world that people are turned off to the forums because of the flaming and bickering. Many read threads but are hesitant to post themselves out of a fear of flaming. This is a shame because I think the effort should be made to make the discussion forums a welcome place for all members to enjoy with active participation. Imagine a group of griefers gathered in one spot in SL, on LINDEN land, ohhh, lets just use the WA as an example. Imagine a group of griefers who wait there at the WA ready to curse, grief, insult & harass other members just for showing up. That is clearly unacceptable and why should the forums be any different. If I were to call people in world the names that are hurled about here it would not be tolerated. WHy should the forum standards for conduct and interaction with one another be different than in world standards. The forums are our community newspaper, part of our SL world, and good feelings, apologies, hugs, love for SL and for one another are part of the discourse as well. Dont get me wrong..I love the heated debate, but I would like to see discussion forums be our proving ground without being such a hostile battlefield. After all, we are all in SL because we love it. So lets say so.. I love SL, and despite the occasional distraction of a heated debate, I love my SL buddies. HUGS TO YOU ALL ![]() _____________________

I'm really happy to see this thread. It was a little distressing -- a bit shocking even -- the disagreement that was going on. For a bit there, I kept thinking I was misreading posts, and I kept having to reread them and double-check to see who'd posted what, 'cause I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. My world view is back in order now, though. I'm really glad to see everyone hugging and making up. Maybe it's time for an inworld forum-folk party to celebrate?

It's important for us rather on the sidelines to be clued in when amicable resolution has been achieved, I think. It only makes sense - if we are going to hear the disagreement, we ought to be in on whatever resolution has occured, too, otherwise we would be ever living in the past, and don't put it behind us, even though the original participants have. Don't you think?

I couldn't agree more with you, Kim. I'm very happy to see this thread. The thread everyone is referring to was horrid. I started viewing old friends differently and not in a good light. This does heal more peole than those that partook in said thread. It heals how we perceive our fellow SLers. I am happy to see the forgiveness as openly expressed as the mean disagreements. If you can express discord in the forums, you should certainly be able to express concord as well!
Thanks all! |

Don't you think? coco I have to disagree. I don't give hot damn if Nolan and Katy hate each other or are in passionate love, it doesn’t matter. This is a message board, it is for debate. The fact that some people lack the intelligence and maturity not to internalize comments on a message board, doesn't negate the fact that it is just a message board. I stand by my original point and maintain that this thread is just more back patting, high five’s, ass kissing, star fuckery, bullshit that these forums have turned into. The only thing worse than the constant petty bickering is the constant "OMG, I have no self esteem so I must be cool in the Metaverse!" attitude/culture that taints the forums. It was just contained to the new products forum but now it has overflowed into these forums and it is tiring. |

I have to disagree. (edited for brevity) The only thing worse than the constant petty bickering is the constant "OMG, I have no self esteem so I must be cool in the Metaverse!" attitude/culture that taints the forums. Eboni, the argument which took place, did so in full public view. It took a nasty turn of direction in many ways and in retrospect, we realize the error of our ways. It is not unreasonable for people to re-convene to discuss and settle issues, then report it to the community. Afterall an impression was laid among the community along divisive lines. I did not initiate this thread, nor can I speak for whatever motivated it, but I can speak to my response to it. I did not respond to expect back pats or self-agrandize myself, but to dispell the appearance intransigence. I'm quite sure Eboni, as a reasonable person, you would agree with that. _____________________

Upon receipt of a PM demonstrating the need to clarify, allow me to say the previous post by me was so completely tongue in cheek that I had stitches afterward due to having actually bitten of part of it.
My tongue, that is.... from being in my cheek, that is.... m'kay? ![]() _____________________
