is porn allowed in the mature area's?

ive heard people say it isnt,but the TOS seems to say that sexually explicit material is allowed.

id just like to be 100% clear is it or isnt it allowed in the mature area's?

Some people have uploaded hentai / anime stuff which isn't exactly explicit, but is quite racey in some peoples' eyes.

It's not really offensive, but I gotta ask: What's the point?

Why do you wanna upload explicit pornography to Second Life? To build a porn store and sell the images to people in-world? I just don't see any point to it... If a person wanted to look at porn, there are far easier and more "efficient" ways of doing so outside of something like Second Life.

I guess I'm just not seeing the benefit to having porn in the world.

The images themselves don't/wouldn't offend me, but the very act of just uploading a ton of pics into the world baffles the hell out of me.

I would imagine that if you were to upload explicity pictures, i.e. showing penetration, they'd probably get protested pretty quickly and removed.



If you personally don't wanna upload that stuff, but were merely posing the question because you'd seen some porn in-world and were curious about if it was allowed, then I guess just substitute the word "you" in my post for "anyone / a person".

I kinda agree. I dont really care what you upload, but I'd rather not se a pic of Ron Jeremy porkin some chick cuz thats just gross.

I suppose there is a fine line between art and pr0n. And with all art, its in the eye of the beholder. Tastefully done posters are fine by me...but lets not get too carried away. A lot of pr0n obviously cant be considered art of any sort (IMO) and I'd rather not see that stuff.

But then again, I can just look away.

well i agree that like hardcore stuff really doesnt have a place ingame.

but tasteful topless pics and stuff i think would be fine.

I say you should be able to do it in Mature areas.

However you should go the extra mile as to not display it all over.

Like store it all in a ROOM and make the door give the player a TOS and Agree to it before they enter. Let them know what is behind the door.

Personally I don't really want to see hardcore porn in SL either.. I can get all I want using Internet explorer. However I can see the use a erotic material for atmosphere etc..

Everything is about set & setting.

If you're just gonna make a wall and put 50 naked women photos on it, don't bother.

If you were creating an erotic lounge or strip club maybe, and needed stuff for atmosphere, then yeah, I'd say that'd be better.

Anything you can do to integrate the images more into something, rather than just going "here's some porn, heh heh heh".

I get the feeling that LL is still uncertain about where they are going with this issue.

Personally I'd rather see the "Mature" areas harder to get to. At minimum a teleport away, possibly requiring a different sort of registration. Under those circumstances they could be as liberal as the community there wished them to be.

As is stands, with "Mature" and "PG" SIMs intermingled I really don't see the need for the distinction at all. There will be constant battles going on about what is allowed and what is not, and wherever the line is drawn, people will attempt to edge slightly over it.

As far as just looking away from images that you don't care for. Thats easier said than done. For one thing the "image" may come in the form of an avatar with suggestive attachments. The other issue is that in many cases images don't resolve very well until you have stared at them for a while. Depending on lag conditions I've had to look at a poster style images for a minute or two before it was any more than a fuzzy jumble.

I would HOPE that the type of people who become regular SL users will exhibit some degree of common sense about such things, but my experience is that eventually people without a clue will come along and spoil things. Might as well be prepared for them.

I think it should be rated PG-13, IMHO. No nipples, no genitalia, same as the HOT CHIX thread over at WWIIO.

There's no place for pr0n in this game, and I'd prefer not to see it. FYI, my 4 year-old CJ The Invader likes to watch me play, and laughed with delight at my avatar dancing last night.
(For you SL folks, I let CJ play WWIIO for me while I watched the final period of a hockey game, came back upstairs to find that he'd run behind the lines INTO an enemy army base!!!1 Adults have problems doing that, and he did it with ease. turns out the Lead Developer of WWIIO was watching him the whole time, hence, his nickname)

If I had to worry about him seeing something inappropriate, that would be a real downer for me.

I hear what you're saying. I also think maybe letting a 4 year old run around killing people in a war game is probably a bit borderline too.

If someone wanted to put up porn inside their build I wouldnt care. I would not care to see RL porn pics posted in clear view of the general population. Know though that if there were a treasure hunt your items whould be seen and if you participated in such a hunt in a mature area you would probably come across such items. Hmmm is this why treasure hunts are usually in PG sims?

Seriously though I think no matter what sim you were in if you placed an offensive item of any type and enough people complained, it would probably be removed.

When SL goes life there should come some sort of lock for this things, since then people under 18 are also allowed to enter the game. My opinion is like most of you: if it is for some purpose its ok, but just hang some hardcore pics around the world isn't okay with me.

I'll come check out your place tonight, deepblue. I was admiring it in a screenshot I took of our bunker that I posted on our forums. Others there complimented it as well. It reminds me of a mall I visited in Aruba once, although the mall was open-air.

i agree with all of you,its just plain stupidity to start plastering hardcore porn all over the place in the open.

but i think that if someone wanted to put it up in their own place in a mature area that should be fine.

Just a suggestion, you may want to check with the Lindens before posting SL screen shots on another site. I'm not really sure, but I think it's aginst the NDA. Although, your shots do make SL look really good.

Tracey this is a complete guess. I think when beta's go "Open" (which SL is now) the NDA is basically lifted. Just a guess though

regarding Mature-rated stuff... i personally am offended by a shop set up next to my bunker... called "smutstore" or something with a large rotating billboard stating so sticking well above my 3-story bunker. the "store" is open-air so anyone passing by can see the goods, which right now are pretty much limited to "prosthetics", which i also find somewhat offensive. now mind you, i don't have anything against porn, but i think that generally the type of person who would shop at this place and wear those prosthetics is anything but "mature"... the only point i can see for the prostheses is for some immature punk to run around saying (verbally or just through actions) "look at me! look at me! i have a giant wang! teehee!"

i wouldn't mind the store if it were walled-in, with a less visually obtrusive sign advertising it's presence, but i think a large rotating billboard in the sky advertising an adult store is somewhat inappropriate in a war zone... :/

i'm not saying that the store itself is inappropriate. after all, Jessie is a mature sim. however, a giant rotating yellow billboard advertising "smutshop" (or something like that) seems a little out-of-place, and i think most people would concur that, by it's color, rotation, size, and elevation, it's an eyesore. maybe something a little smaller rotating a meter or two above the store's roof would be okay... but 20+ meters up in the sky is a little excessive, imho. (and no, i'm not suggesting to make the building itself 20m high just to get the sign to that elevation )
