From: Julian Fate Wow, this is the only thread discussing this and it isn't titled Attention SL: Begin Freakout. Eggy, is that a normal sim? It looks small for some reason. This will be very interesting but it's only for WF customers? Below is a quote from the press release Wells Fargo posted on their web site (bold emphasis mine): From: someone Wells Fargo today introduced Stagecoach IslandSM, a free, multi-player, online role-playing game developed to teach young adults important lessons in financial literacy. Wells Fargo is the first financial institution to use an online game of this kind for both financial education and entertainment purposes. Young adults in San Diego and Austin, Texas are the first to experience the Stagecoach Island game in a pilot program that kicked off Labor Day weekend this year and will end in mid-November. I wonder if this means that Stagecoach Island will be restricted to a certain age group like the Teen Grid is?

As long as we're getting silly... Sung to the tune of "The Wells Fargo Wagon" from The Music Man. People: Oh the Wells Fargo Region is a-rezzin' on the Grid, Oh please let it be for me! Oh the Wells Fargo Region is a-rezzin' on the Grid, I wish, I wish I knew what it could be!
First Voice: Avalon caused quite a stir in its day.
Second Voice: You should have seen the forums burning down.
Third Voice: But this time there's just one thread to warn us.
Fourth Voice: When the soulless evil capit'lists come to town.
People: Oh the Wells Fargo Region is a-rezzin' now, Is it for tourists or F.I.C.?
Fifth Voice: It could be adverts!
Sixth Voice: Or phishing!
Seventh Voice: Or the end of Second Life!
Eighth Voice: Or it could be...
People: Yes, it could be! Yes, you're right it surely could be!
Eighth Voice: Something special!
People: Something very, very special now!
Eighth Voice: Just for me!
People: Oh, you Wells Fargo Region keep a-rezzin'! Oh, you Wells Fargo Region keep a-rezzin'! Oh, you Wells Fargo Region, don't you dare make a profit, Until you make a profit for me!

Stagecoach Island is a grid of separate, but perfectly normal island sims, cloned from a master copy on the main grid, where we develop everything. The fact that it looks small must be a combination of high draw distance, altitude, and lack of fog. I can post more shots if you want... They are set up like the orientation islands, so they are mutually invisible. Building is disallowed, the create and edit choices are grayed out... and so is nudity, they took a bit of a system made for the teen grid where you always have a non-removable set of plain white underwear. The target audience is 18-24, I'm told, but I don't know of any enforced age limits. Heck, I'm 25, and I got my account through the normal signup process.

A major corp have an interesting build in SL, well that's cool I guess.
I'll never forgive Wells Fargo though for just after they bought First Interstate and royally screwed everything up. I deposited a check for $2700 for someone I thought was my friend but wasn't entirely sure so made them wait 8 days till it cleared from the bank 6 blocks away and I paid them. I called up Wells Fargo eight days later and they said it cleared so I paid it. Two more days they said it bounced and I was out $2700. No legal recourse but I will never do business with those bastards again, and I won't visit their island either. According to news reports they lost 1/3 of their customers in that period. Soon after, they made some statement to the press about how they were changing their ways because they were tired of losing customers. Whatever.

I'll tell you what I think. They hold the note on my truck, and fifteen years into the world wide web, they still do not have the facilities to allow me to make payments online. Or so they've claimed when I've called or e-mailed. So I send them payments by snail mail and usually one out of twelve manages to get "lost", and the postal trace always goes to their PO box in Phoenix. Stagecoach Island is an interesting initiative and I wish WF and LL well on it. Seriously. Now, WF, how about going back and doing a little technical "backfilling" for your customers?

Wells Fargo Wagon
09-14-2005 23:24
ARTIST: Meredith Willson TITLE: Wells Fargo Wagon Lyrics from the Music Man
Oho, the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin' down the street Oh please let it be for me Oho, the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin' down the street I wish, I wish I knew what it could be
I got a box of maple sugar on my birthday In March I got a gray mackinaw And once I got some grapefruit from Tampa Montgomery Ward sent me a bathtub and a crosscut saw
Oho, the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin' now Is it a prepaid surprise or C.O.D.? It could be curtains or dishes or a double boiler Or it could be, yes it could be, yes you're right, it surely could be Somethin' special, somethin' very, very special now Just for me
Oho, the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin' down the street Oh don't let him pass my door Oho, the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin' down the street I wish I knew what he was comin' for
I got some salmon from Seattle last September And I expect a new rockin' chair I hope I get my raisins from Fresno The D.A.R. have sent a cannon for the courthouse square
Oho, the Wellth Fargo Wagon ith a-comin' now I don't know how I can ever wait to thee It could be thumthin' for thomeone who ith no relathion But it could be thumethin' thpecial jutht for me
Oho, you Wells Fargo Wagon, keep a comin' Oho, you Wells Fargo Wagon, keep a comin' Oho, you Wells Fargo Wagon, don't you dare to make A stop until you stop for me

What do I think? I thought better of Wells Fargo before this thats for damn sure. Bedazzle got selected, oh big fooking shock there rolls eyes. No wonder LL said SL is not a game, welcome to the fucking future. "Hi All, Today (Wednesday, September 14), Wells Fargo is announcing the launch of Stagecoach Island - an immersive experience set in Second Life that teaches young adults how to handle their finances in an entertaining way. For those who are curious about details, some key points about the project: 1. Swivel Media - an experiential marketing agency - bought the islands for the Stagecoach Island project and paid Second Life developers to build the content and provide products for sale for Stagecoach Island users. The islands are private islands and new users log directly into those islands - a feature that other island owners in SL have been using as well. 2. Bedazzle was hired by Swivel Media to build out the island's content (buildings, games, etc) and over 20 vendors were brought in to sell products to Stagecoach Island visitors. We think this is great further evidence of Second Life being used broadly as a platform, and it is also remarkable to see the increasing scope of projects built by SL developers. I think everyone will be amazed when they see how remarkable the island looks - kudos to the many builders who participated. Hopefully there will be some pictures from the island soon! __________________ Philip Linden CEO & Founder, Linden Lab blog: http://secondlife.blogs.com/philip" So aduts are building a kiddie island, special. What a load of shit, this is just a marketing ploy, get real LL. Cat

From: Blueman Steele So.. from everyone? Well, I can move between grids without relogging, and so can the Lindens, of course. But not with my normal SL account. I think they have some special flags they can set on a per-account basis, but aside from that, Stagecoach Island is just another private island, just like the Teen Grid is just another invisible continent. They share the same asset server so it's technically possible to communicate with the Teen Grid and Stagecoach Island, though you would likely be banned for it

From: Blueman Steele *tries to imagine an sim build by AOL Oh, come on. That's easy. It'd be a 1.7 HUD attachment that says "AOL". They'd claim that you're in a whole different Second Life, and charge you $15 / month for something that comes free ... like teleporting.
