Bad Things You Did As A Newbie

Ok, I'm bored.. So I wanna find out what you all did when you were a newbie that hardly anyone knows about.. Before you knew the rules and what you shouldn't do

I filled Cordova Sandbox with about 13000 prims when I was in after a little bit, just to see what'd happen! I cleaned it up real quick tho!

I got undressed in friend's house, with several folks around, to change clothes. It was a PG sim.

I can't remember anything I did that was bad. I think I was too afraid of offending people.

I accidentally rezzed an enormous barn over a building class. It dropped on them, then ghosted when I tried to delete it.

Around the same time I found a cute little blimp that I rode on, stood on and tugged. I thought it was automated. Then the avatar hidden inside told me to cut it out.

Laura Ingersoll and I got the most splendid idea ever to make a ball pit like they have at childrens resturants in the sandbox, we made a hollowed cube and started to copy drag physics balls, needless to say the sim was lagged to a hault quickly, i panicked and deleted all mine (including the box) and Lauras all rolled out all over the sim with nothing to contain them.

Opps.

I landed right on Mae Best during a Montmartre Artiste meeting. Knot Another Quiz was posted for 7pm SL, and I arrived at 6:58pm. I hovered over the stage--absolute anticipation. Picked up chat--not trivia. IMed poor Mae. She was so sweet that she gave me her calling card during the meeting. I settled down--and have missed very few since then. Thanks, Mae!

Really, Mae and Kim Anubis and the rest of the Montmartre Krewe are the reason I am still in SL.

Ok its more than 512, but it works!

Hehe my first plot of land was in De Haro, I built a house (which wasn't allowed), but didn't know how to use "select texture" so the walls were 2 objects thick, and the roof spun round to give way for attic space.. But I used all the prims making the walls so there weren't any left for furniture

Well...where do I begin?

Maybe with the time I set stuff out in Stillman, on someone else's stall, because I thought it was a general place for selling stuff and didn't realise that you had to buy the stalls?

Or the time that I turned up at a birthday party with a red Vagina box rammed on my head? (OK I had textured it transparent and floating a couple of feet up, but it was still on my head, lol.)

Or the time that I ran into someone else's apartment in Avalon to get a male avatar to rip off his clothes while I ripped off mine? (I was just curious...and that was before the vagina incident, and so I was virginally unequipped.)

Or the time when I ....well I wasn't that bad, really. And I learned really fast .

Well, I went up to this build that had these huge, flowing, beautiful purple curtains. I thought maybe it was a shop. I clicked on the curtains and found out they were for sale for 1 L$!!! Of course I couldn't pass that by.... So I bought both of them. But it said... I now owned the actual curtains.... Which I thought was very odd... but... I took them....

I then went inside what looked very much like a regular house, and nothing else was for sale

When I was new, I discovered Fallingwater & Zana's cool little pod shops and took my friend DrZippy to go check them out. Nobody was there, and we we decided to bring out our new toys, the "Mad Red Ball" (physics enabled balls, that have smoke when they crash together). I think we had about 15 of them out at one point, sitting on them and bashing them together in her shop, when Fallingwater showed up. I realized we were going to be in trouble so I very quickly deleted all mine and stood there trying to look innocent, but Zip had no shame and continued bouncing them all around.

Months later, I ask Fally to do a build for me, and she said yes but that she seemed to remember a strange incident involving me and scripted balls...

I blamed it all on Zippy of course, and Fally still loves me.

When I was brand new, my entire income was based upon my stipend, and Taggy's casino. Well, and one other thing...


There was this "free ATM" nearby (This was before the days of pervasive Free Money machines).

The way it worked, was you could "withdrawl L$1" every minute - but the same person couldn't withdrawl L$1 twice in a row. And it only paid if you were less than 30 days old.

So, a Newbie buddy and I tag-teamed that machine.... for weeks to support our gambling habit at Taggy's. Oh, the excitement of L$1. We felt like we had hit gold.

Later, the ATM was shut down, with an angry note saying that people were 'abusing' the ATM.

I couldn't help but think that I was at least partially responsible.

Long ago and far away when you textured an item a person could take a copy of the texture off the item. The default setting was to allow others to copy said texture. I would spend days and days in good builds clicking on every wall to find a prim where the builder forgot to change the settings so I could swipe the texture.

I also used to do a daily flyby of the voting boxes at the homes of every person in my sim so that they could get more money and make better builds. I really wanted our sim to look the nicest. That was back when creating a single prim cost money so more money meant more prims and bigger, "primmier" builds.

I would "help" new faces find good land to build on. Of course it was no coincidence that all the spots I helped them find were far from my home. In all fairness, there was a lot of land to choose from and no one around. I actually managed to have Tabor to myself for almost 2 months.

...dang.. I was naughty!

I did almost the same thing, except I wondered how many little tiny balls, cones and other assorted shapes would fir inside a hollow 10x10 cube. Just to make it fun all the little prims were physical and had a spin script with the spin set really fast.

I gotta admit, it looked great!! Big transparent hollow cube with hundreds of spinning colored objects crashing around.

Then I got tired of it and deleted the cube ... ooops! The sim was quickly covered with all the little prims spinning and flying all over. I was so embarresed I logged out and didn't come back for 3 days.

Which is actually the recommended course of action in such a situation

So I was told to multithread an email script for height mapping.......


The LL Mail servers were eventually cleared 72 hours later...

heh i remember when i first started in March 04 with Ywoski got my newbi land me and a neighbor started doing this sit on a physical object set its height very high and just fall, we called it our freefalling ride, free fall bounce arond and land somewhere different each time did diffeent shapes and stuff but

one of the originals was just a cube, we sat on it, went up fell down bounced and landed right in someone's back yard as they was in it with a few friends lol can imagin what they was thinking

As usual, my heroic nature took the brunt of HoseQueen's antics. Don't anyone pity me, I'm quite used to it now.

Of course, I NEVER did anything bad as a newbie. I was and still remain the perfect well-behaved resident.

Oh - well maybe there was that one night when Hosey and I were, *ehem, "exploring" and overheard an innocent conversation. I, being the good av that I am, immediately wanted to leave the area, but Hose MADE me stay.

Hmm - I think I still have a copy of that chat log somewhere. *Looks around inventory* Oh well, can't find it. But I'm sure if you ask HoseQueen she still has it.

Yes, definately - poo on balls is icky.
