Is it me or are the same 5 songs on ALL the time in SL? I really need to be shown a place that plays "other" music.. from what I see with the dems in SL we are all quite an alternative crowd, but I swear, its gotten to the stage were I am simply unclicking the stream music button and listening to WMP.. I think if I hear black eyed peas again I may just crack up alltogether, my workmates are looseing it also because Im going around humming these awefull tunes.

plz dont get offended if you A. like that kinda music B. run a radio station with that kinda music or C. well they usually come in 3's

well I guess Im just looking for musically like minded people :D

this should give you an idea of my tastes: http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/Stormcrow/

its pretty safe to ignore any britney or agulera in that list as my sis uses this rig in the day time :)

thank you

The Shelter is all 80s, all the time - and you can make automated requests by clicking the jukebox.

Consider this either an invitation or a caution, depending on your tastes :D

Not having been to a lot of clubs, thus not knowing what is usually played, I have grown fond of On The Rocks on Mirage Isle because they play Metal. From what I have heard from other people, it is a change from the usual played music. Just my 2 Lindens.

thanks for this post richie. i'm pretty new myself, and have been wondering the same thing. i do like the music they play at shelter. and some of the stuff in transylvania has been pretty good. but i've yet to find anything really great. i'm sure it's out there, it's just a matter of finding it. that, or buying my own land and getting my own stream. ;)

I'm personally partial to Club 977 80's m'self, although they seem to have come down with the Clear Channel Syndrome as of late. :P

There are tons of radio streams out there, however...and the beauty of Second Life is all you need's the address, and you can listen to just about *anything*...including a buncha groovy SL stations!

Celebrate! Celebrate! Dance to the music! :D

The same thing happens with a lot of the clubs I frequent. They use the same streams -- usually dance, techno, or hip-hop -- because it's supposed to be better dance music.

I beg to differ. One of my favorite clubs is la Vie en Rose, and when Trader1 is DJing we hear a wide range of music from the 60s to today. I think I *might* have heard Tom Petty's Breakdown twice there over the last few weeks, but that's because I requested one of them :)

On my own group's land, we have similar tastes but tend toward the less mainstream. I usually opt for radio io.ambience -- a stream I hadn't really paid attention to until I found Nyteraves' wonderful store. My groupmates lean toward classic rock. We're all happy. If I never heard the Blackeyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson or Snoop Dog again for the rest of my life I'll be peacefully content.

For you merchants out there, note that if I happen upon a store that is NOT playing the same old crap, I tend to stick around longer -- sometimes just to finish listening to a song. The other day I cancelled a TP just so I could hear Gloria Estefan. If you haven't thought about your music stream, maybe you should?

I play http://www.urbansoulnation.com/ on my land right now, just because I need to avoid hearing trash like Gwen S. at all costs, and I also advertise on their station :D I like that they play a lot of classic R&B and Soul and I don't have to listen to a ton of crap. Privately at my house, its all Reggae and Reggaeton, all the time :), mainly from Europe.

Indigo is mostly ambient/trancey music unless FLipper happens to be subjecting everyone to his music tastes in which case I recommend the mute button (just kidding)

Aimee's a Dancing Queen, Jeff Linden's alt, and is now 17. (She was 16 last year, remember?)

Indigo plays a stations called "Digital Imported: Chill" which is typically ambient like Delerium, Future Sound of London, and other stuff you won't hear in the mainstream. I'll often take over and play annoying stuff like Banana Phone, Magical Trevor, Shatner... or even sometimes my own junk or My Bloody Valentine or whatever. But you'll never hear '80s or Britney or Black Eyed Peas. Feel free to come hang.

SL's strength is its diversity - fly around enough and you'll find something you like!

I may have seen you lingering near the Starlight Diner in Cincta. Is Beck in your profile? If so, maybe it was a song that caught your attention s you travelled through. Music is definitely eclectic and diverse on my land.

My music probably rushes people out of my store, but I'm keeping it anyway, because I like it., and I spend a lot of time there.

Tokyo Ninja Radio, which is (oddly enough) mostly rockabilly, psychobilly and neo-swing, with heavy doses of The Clash, The Pogues, Elvis Costello and the occasional bluegrass or hillbilly song thrown in.

Not what I would play if I ran a nightclub, but I don't.

If we're gonna promote stations, let me be the one to plug RadioRadio. The station with the stupidest name and the funnest DJs. :D

go to www.winamp.com or www.shoutcast.com to get links and info on setting up a station.

You can also go to www.shoutcast.com to see the stations that are available...
ENDLESS possibilities in music.

Cindy, you are right about the style of music that is played at a store/place. When I went to check out the Americana exhibit at FairChang, I absolutely LOVED the big band/war era music they were playing. I mean the old classics. We just ended up throwing out a slow dance ball and standing there for a couple hours listening to that music while we talked. It was great!

I've had no problems at all with music streams in SL. Then again, that's because I have the streaming turned off.

When I want to listen to music, I just start up winamp.

I tried doing this and couldn't get things to play. After hunting around a while, I found out you cannot use the direct links in Shoutcast that include the .pls file. You need to open the stream in Winamp and look at the properties to get the correct URL (that strangly enough doesn't have a file extension, just a directory like www.blahblah.com\blah). Added about 50 streams to my radios Notecard and it works great.

Just a tip for those that are new to using Shoutcast links for SL streaming like I am.

Download the Shoutcast server plugin for Winamp. Details are on Shoutcast's website.

There are other ways but I found this the easiest.

LOL yeah X, you can't use the /listen.pls or whatever else the extension is for the stream. Good rule of thumb is to stop at the port after the :...like http://12.345.24:1234
for some stations.

oh and X, ya could have im'd me and asked me instead of hunting around for it :P LOL
