interestinggggggggggggggggg :)

From: someone

* Secret Debug Feature: Second Life movies!

This is not yet a supported feature, but you can try it out if
you like. Press Ctrl-Alt-D to access the Debug menu and you'll see an option to record a movie to your hard drive.

You should run in a window when doing this, and make the window small (otherwise your computer won't be able to keep up saving the video).

In order to use it, you will need to pick a compression format
(indicated by a "codec";). The default ones in Windows are
not good, so to get better ones, go to:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx

and get the 8.0 and 9.0 codecs. Once these are installed, they will appear in the codec picker that pops up when you start a capture as MPEG4 and Windows Media respectively.

Grass and trees now decay to public just like other objects.

NO !!!

Please don't do this. SL is barren enough. Why would you add this "feature"? Do one of you guys have stock in a lumber mill ???

I was hoping to use this to record shows for my new company, SLBC (Second Life Broadcasting Company), but, the feature doesn't work on my laptop. Trying to get new drivers to fix it. Someone help! :/

Agree we need to keep lots of trees around Tracy!

Remember this only applies to stuff planted by residents that have left SL - the normal crop of trees that are planted by the Lindens will NOT decay.

Also, start a thread as to where you'd like to see more trees - we are happy to get in and be the linden appleseeds.

I think "damn near everywhere" would be a good answer. :)

Philip, a tree is a tree no matter who planted it. If a resident who planted a tree leaves, what's wrong with leaving the tree? If a new resident wants to build and the tree is in the way, once they claim the land, they can move it....

Again I ask, PLEASE leave the trees alone.

And to answer your question, I totally agree with Huns, "Damn near everywhere"!

To the rest of you guys making fun of my height.....I am hell on kneecaps !!

The movie feature is soooooooo interesting, but i have one question for anyone who has played with it. How the heck do i get the file size down? I know nothing about compression, so when i made my lil 40 second movie LOL it was 600mb :P

any ideas? :)

Hmmmm,
Trees good
Trees grow big and strong
Trees have many uses
Trees make paper
Trees make fire
Trees make homes to food
Trees make food

But best use of all for trees are beautifuly hand crafted hand carved antique Castle Furniture of emense porportions.

Sits quietly now sharpening AXE and motions to blue to settle down.

I am the Lorax I speak for the trees!
07-09-2003 13:23
And I love the trees. But the problem is....

Person A bought the land, built some stuff, planted trees. Then they left.

Person B takes over the land and doesn't want a tree in their living room (though that sounds REALLY cool to me...). They can't remove the tree, and they don't get the house of their dreams.

So I'd suggest:
Everyone tell everyone else to plant more trees. Second Life Arbor day. Remember the Lorax. Remember John Muir and Jonny appleseed. It may not be easy being green, but the birds have to live somewhere.

Hope this answers some questions.

What we need is bigger trees. Our trees are too small ans skinny. Maybe if we also made a forest with huge towering trees, that would be awesome. It would be good for a tree house village.

Aurelie...

You need to pick "MPEG-4" from the codec list (the dialog that pops up the first time you make a movie).

This will compress at more modest rates - more like 10MB/minute, even at fairly large screen/window sizes.

Give it a try.

Is it my imagination or is Peter getting weirder by the day?

Oh, our trees seem to be in a Permicane. (Perminent Hurricane). The wind isn't anywhere near powerful enough to do that to trees, lol. I think that needs to be toned down a bit :)

Grrr... at this point I think I'd be happy if I never saw another tree in game.. My frame rate quarters, and I get a bunch of wierd graphical glitches (basically flashes of barkish lines everywhere....) That, and the tree belonging to neighbors have a tendancy of going through walls/floors/doors/etc...

I probably should post the odd graphical glitches with trees in the technical issues forum (it just started occurring) but the frame rate slowdown has been consistent through releases.

Go into the debug menu, and under rendering... you can turn off trees! Sadly, it will not remember that the next time you log in.
