isn't there some other way we can compute that? It's kinda silly that only people that can see me can rate how I build. Considering about the only time I see people is when I go to events (that I don't build :), and I spend most of my time building things, I find it kinda silly that only people that wander by when I'm building can rate me about my building skills.

Couldn't we somehow work in the building rating to the formula that calculates voting stations? I realize they're quite broken at the moment, but it's better than having to schmooze around with random people to get your building rating up :)

One of the rumors I heard about the new versions of SL is rating at building sites. Anyone who knows of this rumor could supply more info cause I don't even know if this is real.

Yes it's true Derek. 1.1 will include an easier way to rate people through their builds or objects. But you can already do this! To rate someone through an object they made right click on the object and choose 'edit' On the Object panel in edit mode you'll find the owner and creator names listed and a profile button next to each. Bring up their profile sheet. At the bottom of the profile sheet is a 'rate' button.

chip - thats a good pointer but how many people know that and use that..I think fly has a good point. It not often we are chatting with someone next to their builds..and if we are we usally know them and have probably already been rated by them or arted them because they do know you or you know them. But for all those other social encounters ..the current system does not work that well especially for builders who dont even get out much.

There DOES need to be an easier way to rate for builders, and I incorporated that need into my re-design idea I posted on here:

LLThreadCollection() - Voting/Rating/Dwelling...

But there have only been two replies relateing to it! Comments? ANYone? Bueller? Bueller?

I gave up on the rating system a while back. I see people rated higher than I with no builds in world.

Since I built Big Red I have recieved 5 new build rating points and then I see new people that come in with almost two hundred more than I and I havent seen a build from them in world yet.

Its sad but the system for builders and scripters its so innacurate and flawwed I have given up on it and resided to just host events and build for myself.

Big Red will Stay in taber its sorta become a land mark in SL so far. But due to how the bonus and stipend are I am going to be very judicious in what I build and how much land I own from now on with out ratings I cant get a higher bonus so I have to watch very carefully what I build and what I can keep in world.

I will do commision work for people but I havent had the time much lately. Once I get my little Island get away built in Jessie I will then open my second buisness of being a Construction Firm. When I do I will have my Office located in my little Bungalow in Jessie.

Take care everyone I dont have a solution to this problem and after the tax issue recently I dont see one that is feasable and fair to everyone.

take care and have a great SL day

I've been refining my rating/voting system idea, and here's the current summary:

----------------
Click on an avatar, and you can rate them in three categories:

Personality
Organization
Appearance

"Orgnization" is to help reward both newbie mentors, and event organizers for their efforts. The other two are the same as they are now.

----------------
Click on an object, and you can rate the owner/creator in three categories:

Builder
Scripter
Ambiance

If you click an object that is owned by person A, but was built and set no-modify by person B (person A probably bought it), then ratings for Builder and Scripter go to person B, since B did the work. Ambiance ratings always go to the owner of the LAND the clicked object is on.

----------------
So it goes like this: Click an object, choose "Rate..." from the pie, choose a category from the next pie, then (and this is new) choose a value from -1 to 4. Next time you see something you like, you can increase the value, up to the maximum of 4. Over time the ratings return to zero at a rate of, say, 1 point a week. (Month?)

This way, when you come across a build you like, you can up your opinion of the builder by increasing the Builder rating. But if the builder wipes all their builds and doesn't create anything new for a while, his or her builder rating will fall back to zero. (Negative ratings fall UP to zero.)

And with the improvements to the map that the Lindens have mentioned, I can envision a layer on the map showing the density of positive object ratings on the map. If kept fresh (only the last week or two's clicks), it will highlight the current cool and interesting places.

----------------
My original post of this idea is here, but the only thing in there I'd want to keep that isn't mentioned or replaced here would be the bit about splitting the avatar Appearance rating with the creators of any no-modify prims or textures the avatar is wearing. (So the creator of a costume, for instance, gets the credit.

----------------
So what do you think? Will it work? Should we put it to the Lindens for their opinion?
