From: Chip Midnight Is that the same train wreck that was supposed to happen when they introduced land tiers? aww come on now thats not too fair is it. Especialy when I have the answer waiting for you. for the sake of arguement a linden posted very recently that they are thinking about bringing taxes back for inventory. My my weren't tiers introduced after they got rid of taxes? Yes they were. From: someone The inventory is a significant portion of the load on the database (number of folders and items) and the asset storage system (number and size of items, including items that are embedded within other items). Many SL residents have rather large inventories, and we expect that eventually we're going to have to impose some policy that encourages residents to maintain their inventories below some number of items (total memory footprint of inventory is a bit harder to monitor and is less of an issue than number of items).
One option that has been kicked around the lab is a monthly (or weekly) per/item charge for items above some threshold. It would be possible to make the threshold a function of account type (premium vs basic) and/or land holdings.
The per/item charge could be viewed as a tax directly on inventory items, or as a charge for extra service." Andrew Linden As posted here

From: Cristiano Midnight That reminds me - what I am most disappointed with about the new pricing is the fact that htere has been no adjustment to tier pricing in a year and a half. No increase in prims, yet a marked decrease in quality of servic. Certainly by now they could either reduce land tier prices or increase the amount of land in each tier. The economy of scale does not seem to benefit tier fees at all. My prediction is that we will see an increase in prim limits really soon..... The tier pricing I am not so sure about, I think it is a huge advantage (for LL) to keep them the same. That's not to say I wouldn't welcome more granularity in the tier structure.

I can only go by the experiences other people report. I'm still as satisfied as I've been all along. As far as land tiers, I'd really like to see it more finely grained, or even just a flat fee per meter. I'd buy more land than I have now but the next step up from the full sim tier is just too much to swallow.

Since when do the Lindens ask us our opinions then act on them. Its been more like; "this is what we are thinking about....and this is how it is......now deal with it" thats how i see things for the past year on average.

To be fair, it's really just semantics, Juro -whether you call it a tax, a surcharge, or service charge, it amounts to a luxury tax. Catherine is right about that.

I could give you 'luxury tax' as that implies an additional cost above a predefined level. Blanket tax, not really. Am I the only one *not* surprised by this? I'm sure we'll see other resources being tied to the amount of land you own or some other matrix. It makes sense and levels the playing field for everyone.

From: Deklax Fairplay Just out of curiousity.... Since last year is done and over - why does RL revenue by certain players, as reported in news releases, continue to grow? It was 100G, now 150... What next? AC the SL Millionaire? Wow! I think I should hire this reporter as my accountant
