I think the message before the sum 41 lyrics was an expression of disappontment in the SL social scene. It seems to me that when he talked to certain individuals, he was expecting Taco Bell but ended up at Nathan's (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).

Nice sentiment, but reality is there are no more women who are hurt by men than there are men who are hurt by women. There are players of both genders. How about expressing discontent over the fact that PEOPLE are "unfairly played and kicked" by other PEOPLE instead of blaming it all on the guys?

There is generally agreed to be a skew in favour of males playing SL by a factor of at least twice. I seem to remember that when LL surved six female avatars and six male avatars to see whether they were male or female in RL all of them turned out to be male.

So the likelihood is, there are more people being screwed over by men than women, simply by the statistic of there being about twice as many men as women in the game.

On the other hand, I agree we ought not to be gender specific as a matter of policy .

Hehe, interesting use of logic. However, the actual statistic as quoted by Phillip on more than one occasion is that 40% of SL users are female. Males are still a majority, but nowhere near to the extent you suggest. There are only one and a half times as many men in SL as women, not more than twice as many. Factor in the transexuals, and I'd say it's about even.

The figure given by Philip in the interview with G4 a year ago was that 38% of SL's users were female.

However, women spend more hours in SL on average per account than men.

Therefore, you have closer to a 50/50 shot of someone you're talking to being male or female.

What makes those statistics interesting is that the demographics in most MMRPGs skews even more heavily toward males. I've seen numbers ranging from 10% to 20% for women:men ratio.

I don't have the demographics handy, but I seem to remember that TSO's ratio was close to SL's as well. Or at least, it was at one time. Women typically play more social games than they do combat or RPGs.
