That's the prediction folks. It is going to be a massacre. Am I right? What are your numbers? You can play with the map here and see past election info. It's a handy little tool. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/vote2004/politics101/politics101_ecmap.html

Is that your prediction? I've never seen anything close. You'd have to give all of the swing states to Kerry.
Supporting evidence, please!

Yes, that is my personal prediction. No factsw to back it up. That is just what I think. Sorry if that wasn't clear. The idea was you were supposed to play with the map and make your own prediction.

Preictions and opinions are like... certain anatomical parts. Everyone has some.
Mine is Bush wins by 40 eletcoral votes. I celebrate for 3 days and the Democrats whine for another four years.

I predict because of the impending terrorist attack and resulting martial law, it'll be Bush 538, Kerry 0

Chip, I was thinking much the same thing as you. I really suspect that there will be some kind of heightened terrorist threat shortly before the election, and I also expect Bush to be returned. Although I think it will be closer than your prediction!

I think John Kerry is strong. He is a good public speaker, and I think he really does what what is best for this country. Honestly, if it were Bush vs. a dirty sock, I'd pick the dirty sock, hands down. Bush CANNOT lead this country. I felt that way four years ago, and he has taken the past four years to prove me right!
Am I an anti-war hippie? Absolutely not. Am I against wars that we never should have started in the first place? Absolutely! I want ALL of our troops to be focused in Afghanistan, searching for al Qaeda. There is al Qaeda in Iraq now, yes -- they followed us there. They'll follow us back to Afghanistan if that is where we go. Once they follow, we can kill them.
Bush has so many ties to the bin Laden family, to Saudi Arabia (home to 15 of the 19 hijackers?), and to companies that are profiting on 9/11 and the "War on Terror" that it's scary! The bin Laden family invested in Carlyle Group before AND after 9/11. Carlyle Group owns United Defense. After 9/11, we went to war. United Defense made a lot of money due to that war. The bin Laden family, in turn, made a lot of money from their investments in Carlyle Group. Another scary note about Carlyle Group -- Bush's daddy sits on their board!
I'm not even going to start in about how we attacked the wrong fucking country, how Bush is using the murders of MY family members and friends as reasons for attacking the wrong fucking country, etc.

All I gotta say is SADDLE UP! I think you just proved my hypothesis. If you still support bush, your either blind and deaf, or an idiot. And its obvious since your on the computer that you arent blind. I would rather have kerry win for one reason only. He isnt bush. As for my prediction, ill just say florida is going to bush, even if the majority votes for kerry.

He isnt bush. Not the most sterling principles to vote in a leader of the most powerful nation on Earth, but those are my sentiments as well Ryen. I just hope the popular vote actually counts for something this time around. =\

Republicans are so prone to losing money and going into debt it just doesn't seem fair to make bets with them. It would almost be like stealing.

Owning a ranch is a good start though... lol. Trying to remake yourself as a conservative for the purpose of an election doesn't make you one either! Yee Haw!

I suppose owning a ranch is a good start. It does help hide the fact that you are from Connecticut. It also helps if you overdevelop a Texas accent that doesn't sound anything like the rest of your family.

There is no possible way, whatsoever, that Bush will not be re-elected.
None.
All this to-do is great excitement, but it doesn't mean anything.
I'm not a Bush supporter. I'm not a Republican. I'm not going to vote for him.
But I'm not getting all wrapped up in this "election elation" because it's a non-issue. The Republicans will remain in power for the forseeable future, and that's that. I feel that people can't see the forest for the trees here.
GOP governance of the US, from here on in, is a lock; it's a guarantee. In 12 or 16 years, the thought of having a democrat or liberal president will be as unlikely as having a black Jewish woman as president is today.
My advice to those who dislike this or will not benefit from the GOP's ownership of the US: (and I'm one of those people) - Adapt.
I'm going to.
Employment simply isn't going to be what it used to be. Industry and jobs that require high amounts of manpower are not what happens in the US anymore. There is no growth there. The US economy is no longer manufacturing or industrial based, but service and management based.
The US is going to remain the 'headquarters' of the business magnates; there will be a supporting class, but very little "middle class". If you aren't wealthy, and do have a job, do whatever you can to hold onto it. But do realize that it may become obsolete as the market dictates.
For those of you who ARE wealthy, and Republican, I can absolutely understand why this is a very exciting and energizing time in your lives.
However, I do believe we're seeing the last flash of life from the "left wing" here before it becomes a confined, niche ideology.
(Note that in the 1950's, this country was much more conservative than it is today; yet people with differing ideologies did make do.)
These things do go in cycles, as everything does. However I do believe that this cycle is just beginning, and we will not see the next in our lifetimes.
343 Kerry / 195 Bush is an impossibility. 343 Bush / 195 Kerry is more likely.
If you're a Liberal in this Conservative world, it's time to learn to adapt. It isn't resignation, either. It's realizing that you will have to figure out your own strategy to make the best you can of things while living in a country where the majority holds opposing viewpoints.
I highly doubt we will lose forum; remember, also, that there are a lot more things you can do that are independent of who is President. Nobody writes to their senators anymore, as foolish and ineffective as it may be, I've actually seen it have a positive effect for change.
Vote in LOCAL elections - they often have surprising powers for change in your immediate vicinity.
Keep track of legislations and contact your representatives if you disagree with one.
There's little sense in fighting GOP control of the country if you're a Democrat at this point. I believe the energy would be better spent in trying to influence individual issues as they arise.
Living in the Southwest, as a liberal, I face this every day; Screaming in people's faces won't change what they think. Most of the people around me do not believe what I believe.
But there are still avenues to be heard.
Remember, if you're in the US, we still do have representative government here. This election, however, has already been won.

Interesting theory, Michi, but I think you're wrong. It's a reactionary cycle. It always has been and always will be, barring one party or the other staging some kind of fundamental coup. I think Bush is going to lose, and it wouldn't surprise me if it's the same kind of landslide that took out his father. I predict a record turnout at the polls. This will be my first time voting, and I'm 38. I know a lot of people just like me who've been shaken out of their apathy by Bush, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Cheney, and the rest of their scarey lot. Most of the polls show Kerry with a slight lead these days, and they don't take into account people like me. Bush might win reelection, but if he does, I'll bet good money that there's no way in hell he'll be followed by another republican.
