If it doesn't say I can't do it.... its legal. Allow me to quote the diciplinary letters you shared with us in another thread: The rules of conduct are interpreted with the broadest meaning possible. This basically means bad bahavior need not be specifically spelled out anywhere for someone to be punished for it. _____________________

I don't think it's specifically written anywhere that it's a no no, and I've never seen or heard of anyone punished or told not to.

The actual act of making one'self invisible isn't against the TOS in any way that I can see. I imagine it would be more the application of turning invisible that would get you in any kind of real trouble (ie. snewping).
Yaknow, they should just allow avatars to use standard transparency to turn invisible, without limitations, instead of having to use the weird texture bug. There wouldn't even really be a need for Psyra's "I'm hiding!" cube... as the avatars would instantly become visible when you clicked View > Highlight Transparent. ![]() _____________________

Like any technology, it's how you use it. If there are valid uses for it and it isn't an immediate threat to people's lives, I'd say it's legal.

Owning a gun is not illegal (in most places).
Shooting someone with it is. Invisibility textures are not illegal. Using it to stalk, harass, spy, or otherwise be an ass is. _____________________

This isn't a feature. It's a bug.
As for people losing the ability to do shoes and such things: Don't build and sell a product on a BUG! _____________________

It basically means LL can do whatever the hell they want and you've just got to take it up the wazoo. And I'm cool with that. _____________________

Indeed. If anything, I'd suggest they use the method that NWN used... Allow each of your parts (arms, hands, legs, etc) to have a full-transparency setting. But if you indeed set EVERYTHING to 100% transparency, it'll place a small unhideable cube at your chest level so that you cannot be 100% invis. :> I'd rather they didn't do it this way, because it would mess up things like the skeleton av, or the cat av (not an anthropomorphic cat, a cat) I hope to build someday. Though I suppose it wouldn't mess them up much, and I'd accept this as the price of easier invisibility. neko _____________________

It's an unintended consequence. So was the invention of rubber. However, this is the second (third?) incarnation of the bug, and it WAS fixed before.. _____________________

I think the ideal solution would be the following:
1. Lindens fix the invisible prim bug and then make an ACTUAL Invisible prim. I say this because the current invisible prims aren't perfect, they still have some odd distorted visual effects and I would like to see these fixed to provide 100% perfect invisibility. 2. Add a "detect av" option to our clients. You could leave this feature on at all times or using a quick key sequence flash it on for just a moment. Perhaps a big red arrow that points to all the AVs in your area, visible even if they are blocked by visible prims (so they can't hide behind walls or under ground). _____________________

Awwwww that would ruin the fun of shoot em up in Jessie ... _____________________

Shadow, I tire of you attacking me by name. Please put me on ignore.
I pointed out that such capability has been removed in the past. It has. It's a fact. It is a bug. If you use it, you are exploiting a bug. I pointed out that exploiting this bug is emerging again in spite of this, and I was wondering if the Linden feeling towards it has changed. Not theory. Has it, or not. I stated that IMHO I dislike the ability for avatars to become invisible. The Lindens apparently have agreed to some extent, since they have removed the capability in the past. I never said anything about shoes, or hiding portions of attachments. I am aware of the legitmate uses of transparency and have never disputed them, not in this post, or any other. I use this capablity extensively and always have. Stick to the point. Not all these assumptions about me wanting to cripple an industry, or punish the innocent, or eat babies, or whatever the fuck else. You clearly don't have any respect for my opinions or my right to them, and constantly try to make me look like some fucking mean spirited idiot. I simply asked the question. That is it. _____________________

I still think this thread needs to have a poll.
LL hasn't answered you, and is probably not going to. However, as the good decent freedom-loving folk we are *cough*, we could very well engage in a little act of democracy and find out what the people want. I suspect it would be Tcoz vs. The World, though ![]() _____________________

actually, I don't really care if it is or isn't. I'll use it as long as it's possible.

Cuz there's some things just masking parts of a human avvie with textures would not do. :> _____________________

Didnt read every word but I got the jist of it and I think it would do more harm than good to cut out the invis prims, as was said you can see people on the map that are invis and also there are scripts that detect people i.e. visitor counters. Also the ability to make invis items red with your highlight transparent option. Also the "Report Abuse" function if anyone seems to be harrassing , following you consistantly.
I personally think that the safeguards are in place already, just have to use them if your worried about it. Antiquity~ |
