Shiny is an absolute necessity. I just wish there were more effects/shaders/whatnot available.

I do, so many builds use it too (from skyscrapers to vehicles to avatars)—no idea why it is off in default Preferences.
One of my first unshiny sights that should have had the metallic sheen was Huns Valen's avatar, playing Prim Attack. After being instructed to turn it on, I was like, WOW. I never turned it off again, altho Sean Gorham reports that shiny can cause UpdateGeom lag for her... so I'll be investigating that more closely since I've also had UpdateGeom woes before. /111/f8/59854/1.html _____________________

I <3 shiny. I don't run into a whole lot of people that have it on though - usually people that have slower computers. To me its a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

I'd rather remove my dick than turn off shiny.

I always run with Shiny on, it's a sin to run with it off!
I would say to have it on by Default, but the hit it takes on your system... I'm not sure. It's not a HUGE hit, but I know some people can't run with it on. _____________________

I'd rather remove my dick than turn off shiny. Seriously. Yeah. Out of courtesy for others I usually only reattach mine when necessary. if only I could resize the ol' coinpurse when I have it attached. |

If the default is off can we presume that most people don't fiddle with their preferences and therefore that most people don't run with shiny on?

Hmm, perhaps, it'd be interesting to see statistics on how many people actualy run with it on/off. Most of us on the forums have been around for a while, or have seen others talk about Shiny and enabled it I'd guess. _____________________

I believe it's certainly fair to say that most (a generalization) Residents come into SL without Shiny on, but sooner or later switch it on as they learn more, perhaps at the behest of a friend.
![]() I think I had Shiny off for the first few days, and never looked back after that, so I'm especially curious about THE SHINY CONVERSION! Muhahaha. That being said, this thread in itself may encourage those running nonShiny to get some. ![]() _____________________

Haha, not remotely embarassing. I will shout my love of shiny from the rooftops. Unfortunately, the quote is rather obscene. Dangit. Just my luck... Someone else can have it now... I'll find something else. _____________________

I LOVE shiny but I cannot run it on this machine
![]() So mine's a no, because of how things are, but it would be hearty "yes" if I could wrangle it. _____________________

I've run SL on 5 different machines. I keep shiny on all of them, even the PIII.
