Now, Eugene has demonstrated a great example of putting too many gates in one sim with that display at Neualtenburg ;) Take a trip there, and you'll see what I mean. They're great, they're really pretty... and the poor sim is lagged to death trying to handle that many physics objects. So, people, I want you to be careful, and make sure you rez gates responsibly!

I saw one sim that was mostly bare handle a good 20 or 30 of them... but it was one of the newest, fastest sim servers out there. Older ones can't handle so many gates, and your neighbors will hate you if you bring your sim to its knees. So press Alt-1 (you may need to bring up the debug menu first with ctrl-alt-shift-D), and watch the stats there about SimFPS, Physics FPS, and physics processing time. If things get too crazy, try to find another sim to put more gates in :)

I don't want this to become the bane of all SLers across the grid. Use the gates in moderation, folks... spread them far and wide, but not too densely, please!

Ok, on closer inspection, it looks like most of the lag was client-side, in this case. Neualtenburg is a very prim-heavy build, and so people without uber hardware, trying to render all of those gates, were finding themselves lagged. Still, keep these kinds of things in mind when rezzing gates, and everyone will remain happy :)

Not to mention completely disrupting the feel of a cute themed community with something that not only is visually displeasing to many (Forgive me Aestival... but orange... omg...) but has absolutely nothing to do with the theme...

9_9 Obviously *somebody* hasn't been following the RL controversies or they'd *know* is was saffron! ^_-

'Sides I thought unexpected jarring colors and builds *was* the theme of SL! LOL!

I've dropped three Gates in my plot @ Tavarua. They're not too far from the (now working) Money Tree.

I had them up before the grid reset. For some reason they spazzed out so I placed them in another position so they will not freak out as much.

Comment on the RL Gates:

You know what is particularly sickening is that the RL gates cost almost 21 million dollars, and even if the artists funded it themselves it is still sickening. Imagine how many homeless in New York that could feed, 21 million dollars. Imagine what the homeless in Central Park are thinking if they hear that. It is truly sickening. Even though that could be said about a lot of things, it just seems that 21 million dollars for something that will stand 16 days and then be destroyed is ridiculous compared to the number of people that could feed, clothe, and take care of.

I would call it art in its own way, but would question the intentions of the artists. It does bring a sacred temple look to the park, almost Tibetan, but it is far too expensive.

Lex, Aestival, awesome work! :D I'm still building the new HQ (Which I think Aestival saw briefly when visiting with Sprite.. Lex, get your butt over to Pimushe!) but as soon as it's done, I'll be putting one or a few up. :D I think I still have the old version, though, so someone needs to hit me up with the new one. :O

Anyway, excellent job, you two! :D

PS: WILD APPLAUSE @ PIRATE COTTON FOR THAT POST!

SL joints don't handle save/restore cycles very well. What you witnessed is what happens every time a sim with a gate in it goes down. Not much for it except to delete the spazzing one and re-rez.
