SL Prostitution

If this isn't PG, please delete it without a second thought Lindens, but I promise I'll be tactful

How about an SL prostitution agency? Something like cybersex in Mature sims or IM? I think it's do-able, (but I'm not going to do it; that's just gross) what do you guys think?

a) amazed it hasn't happened yet;
b) thankful.

I'd be pretty shocked if this was a new idea. Ive seen some gals clad in bare minimums talking the talk in the welcome center some time back.

Oh boy, this is...hrm...I must say, I don't like this idea. I think this would seriously ruin part of SL. It might be interesting, just as a joke, however, I don't want to see an entire industry sprout up around this topic.

In Hawthorn (i think) there's a club called 'Club Blue' that supposed to be a cyber IM joint, though i don't think it's goin anywhere.
I tend to think there would be too much negativity associated with this concept unless it was done all in good fun....which in a way, you see it all the time, hehe. Well, folks dressed as prostitutes anyway...

Interesting subject. My short answer pretty much echoes Coyote's. Longer answer: there are three things that need consideration.

Legality
Morality
Practicality

Legality. My guess is it's kind of like Nevada; solicitation just anywhere on the street would be a no-no, but within the confines of mature sims, if no one in a PG sim is exposed, maybe legal, or at least not explicitly illegal.

Morality. Regardless of the metaphor, and suspension of disbelief, and treating SL as a real world, the fact is, what we're talking about is a combination of avatar and costume design, av behavior generated by keyboard and mouse input, and chat (and maybe, if you go all out, some clever scripting). Opinions will vary, but to me, none of that seems terribly immoral.

Practicality. I don't have much experience where this stuff is concerned. I assume there are specific "services" that are requested/tendered in these, um, "transactions." In which case payment up front for a contracted set of deliverables should be mutually agreeable to both parties. As in most service industries, I can see a role for an agency in pairing customers with service providers, and taking a percentage of payment in fee. Whether service providers need such an agency as much as they might in the real world (for protection and vetting of prospective clients, say), is debatable. Actually, where an agency might have a role here is in protecting the customer, for example, to assure those who care about such things that real world gender matches SL gender, while protecting service provider identities.

I think I'm thinking about this too much. I will try to stop.

Personally, I have no desire to utilize a service like this. However, for sake of argument and defending the right to "be whatever you want to be, do whatever you want to do"--a Second Life Motto--I have to say I think that an agency of this can have a place in Second Life--but only only only in Mature sims, of course. I think--hey, lots of people have a pain in the neck time making money. If a few text-jobs brings in some $, who am I to say "That's just wrong!" Mature sims can handle this kind of "immorality."

If they couldn't, there would not be the option of nudity in SL nor would there be the incoming crotch lump in 1.1.

Darwin I actually thought of a good game: SL Big Brother. All the contestants have to spend their inworld time in a house with you, lol. The walls would be transparent from the outside so you'd never know if you were being watched or not - aside from the map.

I have been exploring the world pretty extensively the last couple of weeks and actually visited most all the current builds.

This service is already available.

A sad, pathetic sort of idea there, Darwin.

Naturally I'm all for it. Just wondering what the tax and rating consequences should be. There are clearly some important social skills involved; e.g. pimping, streetwalking, soliciting, etc. I'd be in favor of taxes being assessed on the Johns based upon actual time spent actively....

Most importantly of all, do trial members get to participate? Or should they only be allowed to watch from a safe distance?

Oh, and Loki...sims and coordinates please???

well. i found an abandoned strip joint in da boom when i first came to the game. it gave me an idea. i designed a stripper bar that is close to one i worked in in rl.
the first one was closed because it was owned by a guy. he was not making money, the girls were.
now, we have a club owned by the girls, and it has been very successful.
the bottom line is, if the operation is owned by a guy, what is the incentive for a girl to work it? she does all the work and then pays some guy to let her do it? good luck.
no, the only way for this to work is for the girls to own it and make their own money.
the club itself loses money to taxes. its really just a place to coordinate the effort. the money is made by each individual girl using the club as a base. i pay for the club with my earnings as a dancer. its not hard.
as to prostitution, i would be just terrible at it, and its not my desire, so i will just be a dancer. thats enuff for me, and it has done well by the girls who belong to my club.
so, any guys who are wanting to form some sort of prostitution thing, lol, if u find women who will give u a cut of their earnings, u have found some pretty slow girls, and good luck to u.

This sort of thing (if done in privacy) is certainly less harmful than your average "contraband" online relationship - generally kept hidden from spouses. Harmless stuff, really, and potentially fun? If that's your thing, I suppose it could be!
