One of the intresting things about virtual worlds is how the current ones are so specific on encouraging, and sometimes even forcing a human appearence on the avatar.
I remember how earlier virtual worlds used to let you go as crazy as you wished. You could be a floating fish, a small bird, a beach ball, anything. It didnt really matter much, and it wasnt roleplaying - it was "just an avatar appearence". SL is among the few modern virtual enviroments today that still allow you to change your avatar in drastic manners, and yet, people tend to disapprove of non-human avatars. This might be because SL is getting more mainstreamed, and the mainstream may just not "get" the idea of "weird" avatars that do not look like humans, except as roleplay. Me, i'm sticking to the catgirl image. Cats rule you all. |

I once had a cat manage to log itself into my Tapdance (super-secured remote linkup to a network based in the rocky mountains) account while I was in the kitchen making a sammich. It got past three passwords, a fingerprint scan, and when I get in the cat's like "You have mail, bitch!" Not really, but I did have one start an old-style mac in the middle of the night with it rigged into floor-to-ceiling speakers. "click" DING!!!! MRROWW!!! It got messy. That made my day. haha _____________________
